President Donald Trump will ask Congress to cut the Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) budget 24 percent, or nearly $2 billion, according to sources familiar with the budget plans.
The White House sent draft budget plans to agency heads Monday, detailing billions of dollars in cuts to a wide range of federal programs. Cuts to EPA and other agencies will fund a $54 billion increase in defense spending.
A source informed of the budget plans told E&E News Trump will push for a nearly $2 billion cut to EPAs $8.1 billion budget. A source told Politico Trump also proposed reducing EPAs 15,000-strong workforce to 12,000, a level not seen since the mid-1980s.

The EPA started out as a good idea. But it has metastasized into a self-contained, control freak monster.

You’re right on with that one.
12,000 is too many. That averages 240 per state, and a dozen or so can handle places like Hawaii and Rhode Island it seems to me.
Whittle it down to where all the liberal busybodies are collecting unemployment...and keep it that way.

If you follow the wailing from liberals on the Internet, were all gonna die! And there's an end to all the pollution. Where's the downside (for them)?

Cutting 15,000 down to 12,000 EPA workers is not good enough for me. And for certain we need to clean house on the whole Global Warming Idiocy. Wipe that one clean, Donald. Probably did a quick study to see how many might be eligible to retire to use attrition vs. putting them in legal unemployment benefit status.
All things in their own time - can't complain about a serious start.

It will unfortunately take a year to lay off that many employees under Civil Service rules. Next year another 3,000.

A great start, but how about eliminating EPA, and give the power to the states? Do the same with the Dept. of Education and we’ll be on our way.

Yes, Congress is an issue but bureaucrats and judges have a way of twisting any law to suit their ideology.

EPA has a lot of contractors so may not need to actually reduce gov’t employees as much as one might think.
To: rktman
24 percent this year and the next 3 and the EPA is left with 4% of it’s former self. Then President Pence can defund the remaining 4% in his first year.

I couldn't be happier with President Trump's progress, considering he just completed his first full month today. He talked the talk and now he's walking the walk. Go Trump, win win win!

There are plenty of local, state and federal laws on the books about pollution and doing damage to the environment. Enforce them. We do NOT need a whole federal bureaucracy eating up billions of dollars as well.
