If you live anywhere near a NASA facility. Glenn research Center is a major NASA facility in Cleveland and Sandusky, OH, you would know that no one who is an actual NASA employee works at all. They are hired and watch those contract workers do the actual work. The contract workers are all paid half as much and do all the work.
Most of NASA could be seriously streamlined like most government agencies.
The in-some-places poor write-up in the article notwithstanding, I see quite a lot of ignorance expressed here (FR). We humans should be far enough along now, that with enough information, we can, in perhaps a decade or two, begin making predictions of specific solar storms that can impact Earth. Much as with terrestrial weather forecasting, we are a long way from affecting or deflecting the storm itself, but we CAN be ready for it, and in the case of a repeat of the Carrington Event, likely save many lives, and many, many billions of dollars.
The key there is “with enough information”, which is what this mission is about.
I wonder how many of the naysayers would like us to do without terrestrial weather forecasts (imperfect as they sometimes are)?
Now wait a second. How can the Sun have ANY effect on earth when it’s way out there in space. We have to worry about carbon dioxide.
