Texas man faces deportation after years of protected status [ordered years earlier to leave]

HOUSTON — Immigration officials began deportation proceedings this week against a Houston-area father of two who says he had lived for years in the U.S. under a protected status given to some immigrants.

Jose Escobar, a 31-year-old construction worker, was arrested Wednesday when he went to federal offices in Houston to provide immigration officials with an annual update on his work status.

His wife, Rose Marie Ascencio-Escobar, said although her husband is not a citizen, he was in good standing with immigration authorities as long as he appeared for an annual review. But U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement counters that Escobar had been ordered years earlier to leave the country after getting his affairs in order.

Ascencio-Escobar said immigration agents told them the agents were complying with new rules enacted by President Donald Trump.

Obama’s actions were criminal in nature in ignoring our laws. There is no viable argument for “protection” except at the hands of criminals. In short, this crap is over. GO HOME @SSHOLES!

“At this time, Mr. Escobar will be processed for removal from
the United States.”

Well, it only took 11 years, but better late than never.

“Taking a construction job away from a citizen” implies that there was a US citizen working that got fired and replaced by this guy. As someone who has been in construction for forty years, I can tell you that is not true.

Maybe you could tell that to my son in law. Worked for two different companies, one for three years and one for four years. Both times he was let go and they hired Mexicans.

Agree, but in that 11 years untold numbers have entered
so in effect we need a better process.

Problem has been the O just us department warned employers they would go after them if they used “immigration” status to refuse employment. The system was there to check status, but you would be in a world of hurt if you used it.

I wonder who he voted for in the election? I’m sure he was told that he could vote as long as blah blah blah.

“This notion that there are plenty of Americans who are willing to take these jobs if only they were paid enough is a myth. Many of these jobs pay $60,000 to $100,000 a year and companies can’t find any applicants that can pass the background checks and drug tests that they require. Our country lacks willing workers, but our cup overflows with young Americans who can’t pass a drug test or a criminal background check.”

I think it’s likely true to some extent that Americans won’t do many of these jobs, precisely because of our massive welfare state. My theory is that when food stamps are actually scaled back and able bodied people start getting hungry, we may be surprised at how many Americans might be willing to do these jobs.

The article states that he has kids.

Well.....At $20,000/per year/per kid that adds up darn quick. And...Yes! That **is** what it costs to school a child in a government school.

I agree on your numbers. In my opinon, there’s no way he could be free-from-government assistance in some manner.

He would need an illegal social security number for that. The boss needs to be thrown in jail.

In 1982, I was paid $16.67/hr as a bricklayer (Local 13, Newark, NJ) with $5/hr in benefits and $1/hr in vacation pay. ($22.67/hr total)

According to http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ the purchasing power of my 1982 dollar is equal to $2.52 – a cumulative rate of inflation of 151.6%, yet the average wage is the same as 1982. Using that same calculator, the $22.57/hr in 1982 should be $57.05/hr in 2017, without any increase in my standard of living. This is so sad.

More sad, is that 34 years later, bricklayers get an average of 22.50/hr for union and non-union.

This is in part due to illegal immigration. The law of supply and demand applies to labor, as well. The argument is that no Americans want the jobs that illegals will do.

Conversely, if there were no illegals, wages would rise with corporate needs and the workforce need would be fulfilled.

[The law of supply and demand also debunks the feminist argument of unequal pay, too. No company would ever hire a man, if women did the same amount of work for less.]

Not everybody is suited for college. Trade schools and trade crafts were and still could be important – provided you could make a decent living without every year whittling away at your standard of living because wages do not keep up with the cost of living.

[On a side note: all of my Union Dues went to support Democrats and the Pension charged me so much for managing my account that there is no money left in my retirement account.] Nobody will go to jail for robbing me and most of my Union brothers of our pensions. It is just the Democrat way.

Sorry but I smell something wrong with the initial story. The man was permitted to stay in this country for so long, why NOW is he pending deportation? If he has NO CRIMINAL RECORD, is gainfully employed, give him a Green Card and leave him alone. There are numerous such families in the U.S. with similar stories. Something is amiss.

“.....when food stamps are actually scaled back and able bodied people start getting hungry, we may be surprised at how many Americans...............”

(Let me finish your statement)......Turn to stealing, robbing and just plain breaking the law. I’d bet this is more likely to occur than actually taking a job. What are the odds?

What’s wrong with you people? Is Mr. Escobar a felon? A gang member? A drug lord? Which of these crimes did he commit? Failure to report and paperwork. Give me break.

Pure bullshit! A lot of high school and college students worked construction jobs. Summer being the peak construction period...

Now you're lucky to be able to understand even the best English speaking Mexican on a job.

AND to suggest Mexican workers are drug and alcohol free is pure fantasy if not an outright lie.

Oh yea and earning $60,000 to $100,000 yr...MY ASS! Mexicans living 4 families to a house with broken down cars parked on the front lawn aren't earning $60,000 to $100,000 yr.

You would actually be amazed at the number of available $60-100K jobs that 18-35 year old Americans won’t take. We’re producing vast quantities of entitled pussies that think every job that pays at that level involves working in an office with every bodies pets, a coffee bar and lively play antics all day.

The abundant jobs that pay 60-100k/year involve waking up at 0430 every day, busting ass for 8-12 hours and coming home covered head to toe in some sort of dust, dirt or shit.

Until parents are willing to let their little snowflakes feel some pain and society isn’t going to cave in to sob stories about college grads living out of a car until they get a clue and a work ethic people like Mexicans are always going to kick ass in the job market, legal or illegal.

Used to be that rural America took up the ass kicking slack, but with agricultural consolidation and automation, along with same in other rural industries like timber and mining, and schools eliminating trade instruction, that pool of citizens who can step up to a hard job quickly is diminishing rapidly.

I’m all for squinching off illegal immigration and getting the illegals out, but people better be ready to enforce learn/work or starve here to get the hipster douchebag set off their asses and into the market.
