Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) spent part of his tour of the U.S-Mexico border on Wednesday with Border Patrol officials on horseback.

Video surfaced Wednesday afternoon showing Ryan riding a horse during his visit to the southwestern border; the Speaker did not appear to be wearing a riding helmet.

Ryan also toured the Rio Grande and surrounding areas with Homeland Security officials by boat and helicopter.

ADVERTISEMENT He’s also expected to visit the McAllen Border Control Station, which patrols 53 miles of the Rio Grande.

You wouldn’t like my wife’s mare then. When we took her to a trainer to get her started under saddle I asked the trainer after a couple of weeks what she thought about the horse. She said and this is an exact quote,”Your horse is destined to kill somebody.”

Oh good! Now he’ll be able to do nothing on horseback twice as fast as he can do nothing on foot.

There was nothing in that video that makes me think that Ryan can’t ride. He sits the saddle easily and moves fluidly. His father-in-law has a large ranch in a pretty rugged area of South Central Oklahoma. I imagine he has spent some time on horseback.

The Twitter posts were as you might expect from couch potato “haters” who don’t know cow dung from horse dung.

With that beautiful dishy baby face and fine boning, I'm guessing it's an Arabian. Am I right? I'm crazy about horses, but the upkeep in NYC---you'd need a second job to do that. Gotta stick to beautiful kitties.

There were more than a couple things he did that were wrong, but that’s just my opinion-what do I know.

Definitely trying to cut off the other young guns from a run.
He was doing that P 90X, or whatever it’s called. He is probably well conditioned, and would like to remind the public of the fact.

I love horses. Love to pet them and give them treats. Just don’t want to ride them. Lol.
I’m around horses all the time. Have friends who are real cowboys. My cousin has 2 horses. I like to love on them over the fence. Lol

He didn't appear to do anything wrong. He has a nice firm seat and balances well.

Horse took off with him and got above the bit. He got the bit off the bars, swinging him round in the process, never fell forward or lost his balance.

It looks to me like he may have been a touch heavy handed on the bridle - but he may be used to riding on a lighter bit. I lit my horse up last week because I forgot he wasn't wearing the French snaffle I usually ride him in - had a different bridle with an elevator bit in it. Neither my instructor nor I figured it out for awhile - she said, "I was wondering when you got so heavy handed . . . " so was poor Harley.
