Two college football players who were suspended from their team last year and saw their scholarships revoked after rape accusations have been cleared by police after authorities say their accuser recanted her story.
Nikki Yovino, 18, of South Setauket, NY, has been charged with second-degree falsely reporting an incident and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence in connection to an incident at a Sacred Heart University football party in October, the Connecticut Post reports.

“She admitted that she made up the allegation of sexual assault against (the football players) because it was the first thing that came to mind and she didn’t want to lose (another male student) as a friend and potential boyfriend. She stated that she believed when (the other male student) heard the allegation it would make him angry and sympathetic to her,” according to the affidavit.

This is holy writ. Dare not to question it.
The two men admitted to having sex with her, both at the same time, so I don’t think they have to worry about reputations. Scholarships should be reserved for those who are role models, not just scholars or athletes, so I don’t think men who behave this way deserve a free ride in the first place. Give it to a young soldier instead.
If false accusation weren’t a serious problem it wouldn’t be listed in the Ten Commandments.
If I were those football players I would sue the school for millions!
you can’t punish someone over an unproven allegation.
I have been saying THIS exact thing from the start of all the Baylor Football mess. Until someone is CONVICTED, you CAN NOT punish them.

The penalties for falsely accusing someone of a crime should be the same as the for the crime itself.

No, not even close. None of them even touched the accuser, much less had consensual sex with her.
But, it’s not whether she WAS raped, it’s the seriousness of the allegation don’t ya know???/s She needs jail time!
Meanwhile the two male students got their lives screwed up. No innocent until proven guilty for them.
