Well, we DO get lots of sunshine...er, used to. I feel like I’m living in Rochester with the dark and drear.

Yes, we have had more than the yearly average by about 25% - before this round of storms - since January 1, 2017. Yearly average is 7.4 inches and YTD we have had 9.4 - actually 22%.

Mt Rose ski area has had over 500 inches of snow fall since November.

Boy is that the truth. January 1st the gates of Heaven opened and it’s been snow and/or rain since then.

The little Carson River runs right through Dayton going east. It is oxbowed high plains river and there are detention ponds. I imagine that the river is full and no drainage is possible and all the streets and residential lots are flooding.

Been there, done that. Houston, Texas has hurricanes, yearly floods, tornados, high temps and high humidity in summer, freezes in winter, mosquitoes, and fire ants. You cannot beat Cal weather.

That’s the one. Our friends live on Potosi.

Interesting; Google Earth maps as recently as June 2015 don't show any structures up slope from that area and certainly none with water.

I seized up a quad 4, driving through water, about 13 years ago.

It’s not a structure, not like a dam that you would imagine. It’s a catch basis and in dry season or even a reasonable rain would just look like a field, dip in the ground.

We’ve just had a very abnormal amount of rain. If we get some wind in it will start to dry things out.

My BIL used to go to Houston on business (worked for one of the oil companies here in CA). Definitely was not a fan of the weather there. Said Austin and the surrounding areas were more "comfortable" weather wise, although many conservative Texans would tell you to avoid Austin, if at all possible.

Looks to be a retention pond and not the dam itself.

Was it making a knocking sound as the engine ran, which turned out to be, maybe a part of the piston hitting the engine block?
This may have been a problem with a lot of those engines. Pontiac?

Remember “Shovel Ready” jobs in 2009? Yeah, neither does anyone else.

Ramirez nailed it at the time:
