Illegal Immigrant Family Shocked at Immigration Laws Being Enforced

The family of an illegal immigrant arrested during a recent roundup of criminal aliens seems shocked that immigration laws are being enforced. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested Miguel Angel Torres, an illegal immigrant living in Austin, Texas, for the past fourteen years, during the recent Operation Cross Check roundup of criminal aliens. It appears immigration officers arrested Torres while they were looking for his brother-in-law, a previously deported illegal alien, the Texas Tribune reported.

“[My husband] is a person who’s never done anything wrong and who complies with the law,” Irma Perez, the wife of the illegal immigrant, told the Texas news outlet. “We don’t know why they detained him. He was driving his own car, not my brother’s. He has nothing to do with my brother.”

Texas law does not allow a person who does not have legal status in the U.S. to obtain a driver license or legally operate a motor vehicle.

I know these stories are written in such a way as to provoke sympathy. However, I suspect they will end up having another effect: illegal aliens will self-deport.

The illegal alien problem has many facets, and so the solution must be multifaceted. Fine the employers and start making them pay retroactive wages, taxes, and benefits on the illegal aliens they hired cheaply under the table. Deport illegal aliens, including their anchor children.

I know that President Trump has said that he struggles with the Dream Act. He shouldn’t have to struggle with this. The intellectual answer is that if these kids are smart enough for university here, they are smart enough for university in their countries of citizenship. If they have already started university here, they can get student visas and leave after they graduate. Too many poor countries suffer brain drain in which their best and brightest get wonderful educations in the US or Europe—and then they decide to stay, leaving their home countries as destitute as ever. What would be the effect on those third world countries if we severely restricted visas for the educated and required them to return home? Wouldn’t they be a force to improve the quality of life in those countries?

Unfortunately, even catching thousands per year won’t even put a dent in the illegal alien population.

Strongly disagree and I do mean strongly.

This round up of illegals along with far stricter border enforcement will send a STRONG message to those thinking of illegally entering the country. Some will be arrested and jailed, then expelled, some will leave on their own and fewer will attempt to enter illegally.

Not only illegal, but lacking in critical thinking skills as well. And probably not all that bright, either.

Not only will strict enforcement of our immigration laws scare those already here into self deportation, but it will also discourage those considering entering this country illegally, giving them a good reason to stay home or go somewhere else.

Laws are ignored if not enforced.

The psychology of Trump’s immigration enforcement will probably do more to end illegal immigration than actual enforcement.

And the MSM is helping. The MSM is in full panic mode, scaring the shiite (sp?) out of the illegals. Thanks to the MSM for characterizing ICE efforts in a way that Trump & the Pubs never could.

That absolutely infuriates me. Shame on the Democrats for demonstrating to these people that our laws are a joke and are not meant to be obeyed.

You have to make them feel “uncomfortable” 24x7x365. The psychological value of each deportation is huge. They will self deport because they can’t sleep at night. I would say 100,000 is enough to cause the stampede out of the USA.

Self deportation is more efficient. Eliminate the jobs and benefits, aggressively deport VISA overstays and criminals, build the wall, rinse, lather, repeat.

“The MSM is in full panic mode”...

It would be interesting to know how many of they, themselves, are “illegals”.

"...My husband] is a person who’s never done anything wrong and who complies with the law,” Irma Perez, the wife of the illegal immigrant, told the Texas news outlet..."

What is significant to me is her refusal to believe that laws in America, passed legally by legislative bodies according to the processes laid out in our Constitution, are anything more than words on paper and can be either enforced or ignored depending of the whim of the government in power.

One can almost understand this mindset, given the attitude about enforcing certain laws for the last 40 years, and most especially, the 'cafeteria enforcement' as carried out by the Obama administration for the last eight years whey they outright and blatantly said there were laws on the books they simply weren't going to enforce.

The Soviet Union was famous for having laws on the books that it didn't enforce universally or consistently until they needed to for a specific purpose, such as getting an individual or a group of individuals into the Gulag. They kept that law in the back pocket, letting everyone break it at will, then enforcing it here and there as needed. Or, as Beria said, "Show me the man and I'll find you the crime."

When a Republic of laws exists where the government simply picks and chooses which laws they will enforce at any given time, that Republic stops being a Republic, and becomes a Banana Republic.

In some ways you can’t blame them - we have not enforced the laws for decades and many politicians have pretty much promised them that the laws would never be enforced - the government created a problem where the solution will, in many ways, create unfair situations. Gonna be a lot of howling as we return to law and order.

“her husband drove to their daughter’s school to deliver a Valentine’s Day box of chocolates”

Well, in that case, you can stay in OUR country ILLEGALLY.

No problemo.

“[My husband] is a person who’s never done anything wrong and who complies with the law,” Irma Perez, the wife of the illegal immigrant, told the Texas news outlet. “

WRONG! Every day he stays in the country illegally he is breaking the law, NOT complying with it! And he broke the law when he came here illegally.

Where’s congress with rest of the illegal immigration law changes that should have been passed and put on Trump’s desk back in January? End chain migration. End the immigration lottery. Etc.

And while we’re at it, where is Gorsuch in the Senate approval process? What the hell else is the Senate doing other than slow walking Trump’s remaining cabinet nominees?
