The United States deployed aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson to the disputed waters of the South China Sea on Saturday as part of maritime "routine operations."

"China respects and upholds the freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea, which countries enjoy under international law, but firmly opposes any country's attempt to undermine China's sovereignty and security in the name of the freedom of navigation and overflight," China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said.

The world enjoys an amazing right called freedom of the seas. Ships from any nation can sail to any port that welcomes them; whether they be North Korean, Iranian or British. This right is not a natural one. It is enforced by the United States Navy. Without the US Navy countries would regularly be starved into submission by stronger opponents. Without the US Navy the world would look much different than it does today, with rampant starvation and war. The US Navy is the reactor rod that keeps the world from melting down.

OUTSTANDING!

Every square mile of that area that is widely accepted as "International Waters" or "International Airspace" should be visited *every single day* by a US Navy vessel and/or aircraft.

China can push Vietnam and the Philippines around but others won't be so easy.

I would like to see the USN flying the Gadsden Flag from a prominent yardarm.

The East/South China sea issue is a real problem. I say this because the Chi-coms emboldened by Obozo and placed military assets on many of these islands. Obama created this by not blocking the militarization of these islands.

Last read, the Chi-coms have placed various types of radar throughout. Surface to air missile/anti-aircraft batteries, military landing strips, hangers, barracks...you name it.

Now what? To dislodge the Chinese from any one of these islands would mean war.

I’m no military expert but my guess is that China would lose those Spratly island assets in minutes if war with the US broke out.

They do serve to keep admirals and generals busy instead of plotting coups though.

War now is a different animal than it used to be. A lot depends on the IQ level of the leaders and who they are. Gaddafi was a perfect example. He was borderline insane. But he was the leader of Lybya. He was stupid enough to charge a US Navy attack cruiser with a pt boat. Not a lot going there. And when the US sent in the 104’s and dysected his block size home with smart bombs, he took a step back. But that’s what it took.

North Korea is the new Libya. Jong is a fruitcake and now has nuclear capacity capable, thanks to Clinton and Putin, of hitting Hawaii and possibly the left coast of the US.

North Korea is strongly supported by China who has a reported 29 multi war headed missiles on the dock ready to fire targeting the left coast of the US. And in an all out war, the world would pay the price. So who ever launches first, doesn’t necessarily win, We all lose. It’s Russian roulette.

So how far do you push them? Get out the ouiji board.

There is absolutely no question, China would no longer inhabit any of those islands if war broke out...just a war with China would be a bit ugly.

To add to your observations: when the Panama Canal was transferred from US control to Red Chinese control, I thought to myself, “checkmate”! The Chinese play the long game. And now they are activating dissent via Chinese students in American universities—UCSD and Dalai Llama event.

The Reds are going to provoke confrontation while our armed forces are not capable of fighting on multiple fronts..

Never understood why American leadership all the way back to Nixon, thru Clinton, Obama, have given China the whole damn farm. Over and over.

Nixon's visit to China that eventually led to Most Favored Nation status/world trade org., Clinton receiving Chi-com cash for his campaign then transferring sensitive satellite tech over to the commerce dept, allowing the Chi-coms to get their hands on it (payback). Then Obozo’s appeasement policies that led to all the nonsense in the east/south China sea. Heck for that matter, George Bush sr. and baby bush's whole globalism/free trade poppycock.

Now, after decades of double digit growth in their military expenditures, the Chi-coms are a formidable force. Our military still is the greatest on the planet, but we would take serious casualties if war ever broke out.

Not to mention, the Chinese have made it plain that their intention to hit American mainland would be a strategy if ever in conflict with the U.S..

Can you imagine the chaos if war were to come to our Western shores.

“...Can you imagine the chaos if war were to come to our Western shores?”

Certainly. As a Westerner who has followed the rise of Red China for 45 years (since Nixon and Kissinger changed the course of history), I've been imagining the missiles hitting our western shores which had previously been safe. Russia's military was becoming less a threat. Then over 45 years, Red China built a military industrial complex one step at a time.

Incidentally, Nixon's biggest mistake was taking America off of the gold standard. Back in 1970’s, a $20 gold piece traded close to $20. Now it trades at over $1200. Double digit inflation upon an overly taxed and regulated economy. Then look back at Red China where a few bribes got American businesses the slave labor, no regulation that is required to keep prices affordable to the poorer and poorer middle class Americans who are the backbone of our country!

And so, we have met the enemy and the enemy is us/U.S.A.! Neither Nixon nor LBJ arose out of nowhere to destroy the beating heart and soul of individualistic Americans. Read “The Ominous Parallels: the End of Freedom in America” if interested in where bad ideas come from.

........I’ve spent several years on and off of a U.S. Warship
though it was several decades back. Those times were mostly in the South China Sea but with some in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Based upon that experience, I can say equipment on a warship is subject to never ending maintenance ergo whichever side has it’s equipment up and running the instant war breaks out is going to win.

No honor among thieves here, is there?

But one thing that really bother me is that it states within the article that the entourage from China is coming to the US to talk with “FORMER” American officials. Far as I’m concerned, this is an action of disrespect and reeks of an effort to try to overturn the existing administrations efforts to take action in the best interest of the people of this country. Trying to covertly subvert our president with undercover support is exactly what a third world country, one based on gangster style operations to achieve their wishes, would try. And any “former” official; that participates in this should be recognized as an open effort to subvert the president and try to do harm to this country.
