This is why I believe we should have a much more minimal “national security interest” clause for the CIA. I believe there is a responsibility of OUR government as determined by the founders to tell the American people a lot more, and to have the “in our national security interests” defined far more precisely. The way it now stands, we arm drug kingpins and terrorists (cough osama bin laden cough), and trade them access to a blind American populace for prizes not even in our interest.
Raise your hand if you are gobsmacked by this revelation. How else did anyone think the CIA financed their covert ops?
It’s a simple matter of logistics. If someone is above the law, how could they NOT do it. There is no easier way to generate pallets of cash than to tap into the illegal drug business.
When you are an agency so above the law, begging for legal cash each time would obviously crimp your wings (see Obama’s pallet deal with Iran).
Every other business with billions of dollars has rules and a papertrail. Drug dealers just have stacks of untraceable cash flooding entire rooms.
Pablo had more cash coming in than floor space. Even giving as much as he could away, he still had too much. They are still finding his dump sites all over Colombia. Just holes in the ground where they would dump bags of cash.
Yes, it is time to relieve them of their duty and start anew.
