Mexico City (AFP) - Ford is sticking with its plan to build two new factories in Mexico, despite an announcement last month that it had scrapped plans for a plant in the central state of San Luis Potosi.

The US carmaker said a planned factory in the central state of Guanajuato will build engines and transmissions, while another in the northern city of Chihuahua will make car parts for use by Ford factories in the United States, South America and Asia.

The German Army rode into the Battle of the Bulge on FORD TRUCKS.....

Is it time for Trump's supporters to boycott the purchase of their low quality vehicles?

They need to be heavily taxed if they come into the U.S.

Won’t need to boycott them. If they want to pay the import tax it’s up to them. They have to figure out a way to remain competitive

I'll walk before I ever buy a car made in China...or Mexico.

That’s fine if they want to sell cars in Mexico.

Yep. At one time, serving local demand was the only reason to locate a plant outside your home nation - e.g. Honda and Toyota built plants in the US to supply the US market rather than continuing to ship them over by boat.

That scenario needs to return. If Ford wants to sell to domestic Mexico and CA markets, great. But if they think they’re going to screw US workers by importing parts from cheap labor countries, Trump will make them pay a heavy cost.

The dirty little secret that no one talks about is that there have been tax based incentives for North American content for some time, and that was a big part of the reason for European and Asian countries to set up shop here. These were in place long before NAFTA, which is why so many cars even in the '60s were made in Windsor, Ontario, etc.

Boycotting unnecessary.

Extra taxes will stifle such behavior, and put more money in the government coffers while the behavior continues.

So it’s short term corporate gain by locating plants outside the U.S. (with whatever quality that happens to go with them) and long term American loss, or long-term corporate gain by locating plants domestically and long-term American gain from extra jobs, pay, and the relatively lower tax rate but more taxpayers.

I wonder if that was the deal they made with Trump, they build engines and parts there, but assemble them here?

A fake news story trying to undermine TRUMP.

They even admit it in the first paragraph:

“...despite an announcement last month that it had scrapped plans for a plant in the central state of San Luis Potosi.”

Trump didn’t say NO FORD PLANTS were in Mexico.

What lie? They have cancelled a plant and will assemble those cars here. He didn’t say they wouldn’t build any parts there. I doubt there are any cars made here that don’t use at least some foreign made parts. At least it’s a start.

Apple is working on getting into the car manufacturing business. They have the free cash to make it happen but they don’t have the character to make it happen.

American wildcat conservatives across the country have the know-how and character to make it happen but they lack the cash. That can be solved.

NEVER FORGET that, Ford, Rockefeller, Carnegie, KENNEDY and many more were Close Friends and Financially Supported Adolf Hitler right up until he attacked Mother Russia.

I’m only going by what I read - which is that they released a statement about staying in the US and then reneged on it. Now if that is fake news, the media should stand corrected, not me.

Opel(GM) also built trucks for the Wehrmacht. It should not come as a surprise that plants located in Germany would be turned to war production, as Toyota or Mercedes plants here would also be if we to conduct another WW.

I don't think so. If we don't allow them to work in their own country at their own wages, they will come here and take yours. And from what I've seen here is that they are willing to work. Hard. And coming here, they will drive down wages here. And they will send a lot of their wages back to Mexico.

Review the history of Ford in Mexico (click here). Excerpt:

"This subsidiary was the first automaker to establish production in Mexico, in 1925, and it remained the only automaker in Mexico until 1938. Although the Mexican market has remained relatively small, Ford Mexico's production of motor vehicles increased greatly in the 1980s, when it began turning out vehicles for export to the United States."

Tax incentives for big business means the US citizen must pay not only his share but big business’ share as well.

Tax incentives for big business means the US citizen must pay not only his share but big business’ share as well.

The incentives are a reduction in tariffs that would otherwise have to be paid, not a payout to the business.
