Mark Zuckerberg has revealed deep-seated concerns that the tide is turning against globalisation.
In an interview with the BBC, the Facebook founder said that fake news, polarised views and "filter bubbles" were damaging "common understanding".
He said people had been left behind by global growth, sparking demands to "withdraw" from the "connected world".
In a call to action, he said people must not "sit around and be upset", but act to build "social infrastructures".
"When I started Facebook, the mission of connecting the world was not controversial," he told me.
"It was as if it was a default assumption that people had; every year the world got more connected and that seems like the direction things were heading in.
"Now that vision is becoming more controversial."

Smartphones and social media were nothing but Trojan horses.
And Facebook is the quintessential multi-national superstate. Almost a literal empire with pure autocratic power.

Connecting people is one thing. Instituting a one-world government of unelected oligarchs is another thing entirely.

Hey Zuckerberg, This is America. If you don’t love it, leave it. I’m sure you can find some communist or fascist country that is more to your liking. Too bad they’ll confiscate your billions, though. Ain’t freedom grand.

I have an iPhone but it does not get much use . Poor thing. I hate talking on the phone and have ever since I was a kid. I had rather be reading. I do text my family but that is it. I talk to my brother and his family in MS about once a week. He recently had a THR and I keep up on FB with my nieces and their kids. One posted a picture of him and one of his great grandsons today. I hardly ever use my email account. I still look for posts from my cousin's wife who died a few months ago. She kept us updated on her family. She is missed because she was a special lady who was also my mom's dad ancestors researcher. She went all over the country before the Internet saved a lot of traveling. There have been a lot of deaths in family and high school friends recently. So glad we were able to keep up with them over the years.

Another university-indoctrinated socialist. Harvard. Now with huge money.
He’s a secretively manipulating peeping Tom at heart, with a desire now for great control of others and society, a megalomaniac.
FReepers ising FB have a bit of a conundrum, imo.
