McConnell: 'Judge Gorsuch is going to be confirmed'
Washington Examiner ^ | 2/15/17 | Susan Ferrechio

Neil Gorsuch will be confirmed to the Supreme Court even if Democrats do not provide the eight votes needed to break a filibuster, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday in an interview that seemed to hint at a possible change to Senate rules to approve President Trump's nominee over Democratic objections.

Be careful what you wish for. Ike appointed Earl Warren (remember how that ended up). Old man Bush appointed Souter,GWB appointed Roberts and don’t forget Reagan appointed Kennedy & O’Connor. The record is loaded with GOP turncoats while the RATS have only one, the late great Byron “Whizzer White.

For goodness's sake. He's Episcopalian. It's a social club not a doctrinaire religion. No Episcopalian puts up with being told what to think. For the most part you sleep through that part of the service.

The whole issue is bloody stupid. Get over it.

Here’s some more history Nixon appointed a real so called “conservative” to the Supremes who ended up rolling over and gave the deciding decision in Roe V Wade. One more, Gerald Ford was not to be outdone, he chose another strong conservative John Paul Stevens who rolled over like a wet suit. they like being accepted on the Washington Beltway and by the Washington Post. One can only hope and pray how Gorsuch turns out, but after he bad mouthed Trump I have my doubts, especially even after he clerked for Kennedy.

The "60 votes" is to invoke cloture (meaning, "end the debate"). A Senator's vote on cloture does not imply any particular vote on the main motion.

Trust the media to confuse the situation just to make a snappy headline.

I tend to support nuking the filibuster for SCOTUS nominees. The filibuster is no longer sacrosanct after Reid fiddled with the rules. It’s probably just a matter of time before the filibuster is permanently ditched.

This is so warped even Mitch gets it.

So long as SCOTUS remains split 4-4 agitators in the Fed Court system will continue to tie the Trump Administration up in knots.

A failed Trump Administration will not be good for ANY Republican.

Plus it’s patently obvious that the Democrats are going to do this ten minutes after they secure their next majority.

Really afraid, judging by the church he attends, we’re getting another Roberts, at best.

I'm concerned as well, didn't like his "attack" regarding speaking badly about other corrupt pathetic incompetent judges.

Nope not at all. Just laughing my ass off at the fact that anyone would try to make anything of the fact that someone is Episcopalian except that they are Episcopalian.

To try to assign some sort of doctrinal views to Episcopalianism is a logical absurdity. We were established by a man who decided to substitute himself in place of the pope on matters of doctrinal infallibility so that he could practice serial womanizing. But it did become the establishment religion of England and therefore parts of the U.S. and spread west with the banks and law offices.

It's just a nice sort of clubby establishment thing. Episcopalians are enough of an organized religion that they can call themselves Christians without too much hypocrisy. They cite the Nicaean Creed. But if you want a doctrinal dispute you are going to have to claim that the mayonnaise on the potato salad at the church social is rancid or that it's too much that Buffy and Jesse were caught in the parking lot sipping from a hipflask at the Church dance.

The closest you could get to being able to accuse someone of anything for being Episcopalian is perhaps lack of belief, but that isn't quite true either. They will profess to believe whatever they need to believe to be members of the club, but it isn't ardent. It's like the country club charter. No one really reads the rules. You just act like gentlemen, pay your dues and enjoy the privileges. And it certainly isn't revolutionary. Some ministers may be radicalized, but their flock is rather infertile ground for any of that nonsense. Sermons are something you sleep through. It's a cost of being in the community.

So yeah, I think it ridiculous that anyone would try to figure out anything about Gorsuch from the fact that he is Episcopalian, except perhaps that his parents came from the establishment. But we knew that anyway.

They could resolve this immediately.

Force old-fashioned filibusters.

Let them talk until they’re blue in the face. When they can’t continue, then we vote.

PERIOD.

I’m not raising a flag because he’s Espicopalian, but rather the specific local church he is a member of, the pastor and her beliefs. It’s hard to imagine continuing attendance and membership without an assumption (or fear) that he’s ok with his pastors ideology.

To an extreme, how many Freepers rejected the notion that Obama sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for 20 years and didn’t buy into Wright’s ideology?
