Brittany Mayeux, 20, is accused of recruiting her sister, her sister's wife, her boyfriend and two others to rob a man at gunpoint in a Gretna hotel room, making off with about $90,000 early Saturday (Feb. 4, 2017), according to Gretna police.
The roughly $90,000 in cash that a robbery victim had stashed in a lockbox in his vehicle was obtained through a BP oil spill settlement, according to Gretna Police Department Deputy Police Chief Anthony Christiana.
The unusually large amount of cash was the target of a Feb. 4 armed robbery carried out by at least seven men and women who split the stolen money, using some of the cash to buy vehicles, police said. Six of the seven suspected robbers have been arrested on armed robbery and battery charges, while police say they are trying to identify a seventh suspect.
The group not only robbed the victim at gunpoint, but also beat him with a lamp, causing several head injuries that required staples, according to Gretna police reports.
Those arrested include Brittany Mayeux, 20, who told investigators she knew the victim had about $90,000 and had devised a plan to rob him.

90k cash in a safe in a hotel isn’t shady at all.
“I don’t always carry 90K in cash around, but when I do, I don’t tell people about it.”
I think he had the 90k in the trunk of his car...
How did he get the money?
Did he own beachfront or swampfront property, and oil came ashore, and BP paid him for damages?
Was he the head of some interest group like “Save The Birds of the Gulf Coast?”
It’s not that much money. It was probably a lawsuit settlement, and he elected to take funds in cash.
You could probably get BP money if you had a hot dog stand on Bourbon Street.
I dont tell people about it.

The BEST security.

My brother in law’s company just got a 6 figure settlement. I’m not going to go into detail but it’s a little hard to imagine his company being that adversely affected. Lawyers are making a killing, too.
I wonder what the standard lawyer’s percentage is?
He’s lucky the police didn’t hear about it before hand, or they might have confiscated it in the name of the ‘war on drugs’.
