How did FBI/DOJ get access to the recording/transcript of the calls? Technically it’s not within their purview to be surveilling foreign diplomats.

When the Immigration and Naturalization Service approved Mohammad Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi’s flight school visas in March 2002, that was an extinction level event for that Agency.
The INS was disbanded and it’s functions were folded into DHS.
In my view the level of misconduct from the entities responsible for these leaks is getting to where an extinction level event is required.
One caution. The case I know of where there was a politically motivated leak against the elected government - they went to great lengths to disguise the ultimate source.

Regarding Braverman. Follow the money. He was going to be the Fall guy for Clinton Foundation. When he realized it, he did an interview and tried to make his way to a Russian Embassy in the USA and then disappeared.

Trump should have dumped Comey early on. Now if he fires him his enemies are going to create a narrative that Trump knows that some damaging truths [/sarc] are going to be released. They will call it something like Saturday Night Massacre II, pointing to his firing of the acting AG.
All of us knew this was going to happen going in, but we believed then - as we believe now - that Trump is tougher than them.
I expect, though, that McCain and Paul Ryan are involved in this.
