My life sucks since winning the lottery

Poor little rich girl.

The youngest person ever to win the lottery in Britain wants to sue the jackpot honchos who made her wealthy because the dough “ruined her life,” according to a report.

Jane Park, 21 — who won $1.25 million playing Euromillions at age 17 — says she was too young to cope with the sudden flood of wealth, according to the UK Mirror.

“At times it feels like winning the lottery has ruined my life. I thought it would make it 10 times better but it’s made it 10 times worse,” she moaned to the paper.

“I wish I had no money most days. I say to myself, ‘My life would be so much easier if I hadn’t won,’” she said.

She’s sick of shopping, misses hustling for a paycheck and has struggled to find a boyfriend who isn’t using her for the dough, she said.

Before Park won the lottery in 2013, she worked as an administrative assistant for $10 an hour and lived in a modest apartment with her mother in Edinburgh, she said.

The lottery is the Euromillions. No taxes on it in Britain.

Invest it in index funds and take out 4% per year to live on. $50,000 a year is plenty to live on and you still have the principle.

The average family income in Britain is $33,000.

If she wants more money per year, work at something.

The world would be her oyster because she would be financially independent.

The problem is she has been brainwashed to think that expensive toys and expensive vacations will make her happy, when they have little positive effect and some negative effects.

No mention of family in the article. If she had responsible parents or other relatives they might have counseled her to do as you suggest and turn her winnings into a kind of annuity. This way she’ll probably run through it all in a couple of years and end up poorer than before.

She really looks stressed in the photos!

Me thinks she spent the money too quickly and is looking for another windfall ...

“Donate all the money and shut up.”

I think it is already gone.

Money won’t help much if your life sucks to begin with.

Real steps, if you hit the lottery.

1. Shut up about it: tell NOBODY outside your home.

2. Get a lawyer and an accountant. Get a bulletproof trust and plan to minimize the tax impact.

3. Get all-new phones (and phone numbers), make sure they’re unlisted, and likewise, create new email addresses.

4. Start making preparations to move.

THEN. . .

5. Collect your winnings through your lawyer. If they require a photo to collect, change your appearance for the photo. Wigs, fake facial hair, sunglasses, pads in cheeks, totally out-of-character clothing, etc.

6. Disappear.

How the heck does someone mess this up?
Too much money? Just set up an annuity.

Million bucks at age 17? That's a nice start on a comfortable life. Go to a good school and get a degree without needing to work two jobs to support yourself. Find something that you really *want* to do, instead of menial labor for 40-odd years.

Heck, playing it smart means that you don't need to save an enormous chunk of your salary for retirement, you'll have a lot more disposable income to play with. Will be a *fun* life.

But, it's not a license to sit on your butt. Just means that you've got it a little easier than most.

Sadly, this girl sounds like she'll turn out like so many others, win a ton of money, and have nothing left after a few years but some really nice tattoos.

Looks like she might have invested some of it in a couple of accessories but then ran out of money before she could buy a shirt big enough to to keep them in.
