Trump approves Oroville Dam disaster declaration despite bad blood with California Democrats

President Trump approved Tuesday disaster relief for California, putting an end to speculation that the bad blood between the White House and Gov. Jerry Brown would jeopardize the state’s plea for emergency aid. The Federal Emergency Management Administration announced that the assistance would be provided “due to the emergency conditions resulting from the potential failure of the emergency spillway at Lake Oroville Dam beginning on February 7, 2017, and continuing.” Mr. Brown, a Democrat who called Mr. Trump a “fraud” during last year’s presidential campaign, made the request for federal help Friday after heavy rainstorms inundated Northern California, flooding creeks, washing out roads and damaging infrastructure. The crisis culminated Sunday with the evacuation of nearly 200,000 residents near the Oroville Dam, which saw sheets of water cascade over its earthen walls and an enormous sinkhole open up on the emergency concrete spillway. In its statement, FEMA said the president’s action would allow the agency to coordinate disaster relief in order to alleviate “hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population,” and provide assistance “in order to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in the counties of Butte, Sutter, and Yuba.”

I would hope that President Trump will go there and inspect the dam himself with the Army Corps of Engineers. Then the price of $200 million for repairs may drop way below that. President Trump does not like to get snookered by contractors. Many have tried and failed.

Imagine if President Trump did nothing and people died. He has to at least take their phone calls.

Would Brown sign the aid for Trump under the same circumstances?

Hope it’ll actually be spent on what it’s supposed to be...

According to reports, this didn’t happen overnight. Brown prob left NorCal out to dry as punishment. However, I suspect this is union (Dem money launderers). I thought CA was independent... kind of we need them more than they need us.
I also suspect this is the beginning of the Trillion dollar “ infrastructure” stimulus.

Trump should take the money from Federal funds for CA’s sanctuary cities. Let the Dems fight that.

I’m not actually sure the guy would. But president Trump seems to have a good heart. Unlike many of his opponents.

California Governor Spends $25 Billion Per Year On Illegals, Officials Warned Dam Failing Years Ago
thegatewaypundit.com ^ | Feb 14th, 2017 / FR Posted by Helicondelta

California Governor Prioritizes Illegals Over Infrastructure that Supports Citizens.

According to a report from the Washington Times, California Governor Jerry Brown has been spending $25 billion a year supporting illegal immigrants while neglecting the failing Oroville dam.

From The Washington Times: The flood danger from the Oroville Dam receded Monday, but California was hit by a wave of criticism for failing to heed warnings about risks to the spillway at a time when the state spent generously on illegal immigrants and high-speed rail.

California Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, came under fire amid reports that federal and state officials for years rebuffed or ignored calls to fortify the massive 50-year-old dam, which provides water to more than 20 million farmers and residential consumers. Money for "potential" failure......No homes damaged, no one died, no rescues....

I don't understand why they are getting OUR money....let them use State money.

The problem with this one isn't so much the cost as the time. There is no way to fix the spillways before the water rises again, and this looks like the kind of year that will have massive, warm storms until June. There isn't enough money in the world to fix the problem.

But you're right - Trump should go himself, without notifying Brown. Since Brown hasn't even wanted to discuss the problem, he might as well be left out of the solution, too.

Only because of the dearth of realist Trump posts on here; this will have to do for my posting. I wish for Conservative hegemony worldwide but have you all seen the way in which DJT has been coming apart on Twitter today? Truly dreadful..

Claifornia needs to apply to the ninth circuit for relief. Trump doesn’t have this authority according to their latest.

IIRC, Obama ignored Texas when they requested emergency aid for wildfires in 2011. He ignored Nashville when they were in need of emergency aid for destructive flooding that killed many in 2010. But Republicans are responsible. So, we will bail out California, even though they ignored engineers when they were told the dam needed repairs. Obama couldn’t have cared less when areas perceived as Conservative needed help. We are better than that. (And yes, I am aware that Northern California is much more Conservative than most of the rest of the state)

Mr. Brown, a Democrat who called Mr. Trump a “fraud” during last year’s presidential campaign, made the request for federal help Friday

It would be the 'people' below the dam who suffered total loss, not Moonbeam. Trump is their President.

I just read Trump’s tweets. They were great. Rather than a fact-free smear, why don’t you post some examples?

‘Would Brown sign the aid for Trump under the same circumstances?’

Whatever Brown did, the MSM would praise, and then protect him. They will attack Trump regardless, but would attack 1000x as hard if he withheld money that might save lives.
