A lot of people over 50 get laid off and it’s difficult to get a job. I once walked into an interview, went through the pleasantries and “Oops something came up, We’ll call you to reschedule”. They never did. When I called to reschedule the next day they said they filled the position.

I’d tell him to join the military. Hell, I remember my rancher/farmer elders in the 70s saying how damn mad it made them to see men in their 20s and 30s unemployed, able-bodied, but looking for handouts.

actually not rhetorical.

Bloomberg is using 2010 as the start of their jobs “created” number, just like Obama did.
Approx. 5+ million jobs were lost in 2009.

Most of which has been caused by the federal government’s complete incompetence.

I think a lot of that would disappear once it is no longer routine for employers to offer medical coverage for their employees. In fact, the stupid Obamacare employer mandate has given companies a huge incentive to lay off all their older employees and replace them with younger ones.

70,000 factories closed since 2000. A $800B trade deficit. There is your “face of unemployment”.

They must take note when people leave their jobs, or the numbers wouldn’t go down. They actually did under Bush.

Right. Remember, they are only talking about jobs created. For instance, one summer I worked at Yale Tennis Camps for three weeks. Since I was listed as an independent contractor that was counted as a job created. It didn't matter that it was only for three weeks.

Obama devastated many counties in WV. Certain counties depended on coal mining and all the other business in the area need the men mining.

In the monthly figures they announce, sure. In the government stats for jobs held, they do go down.

I agree with your take on the monthly reports.

Hey, the same 150,000 people could have been laid off and rehired.

People give up...

Look at the suicide rate among white men... it's high. Same with new drug addiction... it's hitting the working and middle class.

Maybe we should all kill ourselves so companies can bring in cheap labor to destroy our hopes and jobs. That just might be the goal of white liberal elites... turn the country into the land of poor blacks and browns who prop up ‘elites’ so elites can buy 2 more yachts each.

My job evaporated at 54. Too young to retire.
I got my real estate license and went to work for myself.
Not making the same money, but I am not working at the whim of some 30 year old punk with no respect for experience.

Replace every full time job lost with 3 part-timers at 15 hours a week, and the “new jobs” will rack up fast...

I do identify with the older guys who are told they are "too old" for a job.

I've got a few siblings with that problem. They've been edged out of the workforce by young people and immigrants.

One brother spent his career as a master plumber. He got so hard up for work a couple years back, that he wound up signing on as a live-in handyman at an apartment complex.

One of my sisters finally threw up her hands and started driving for Uber. Aonother sister is living with our aged dad while she tries to stabilize some kind of livelihood for herself.

If it weren't for the fact that I've owned a business for twenty years, I'd probably be sweating the same situation.

> I know your question is rhetorical but we all know that homelessness and joblessness didn’t even exist between 2009 and 2017, right? Because it would have made the golfer in the WH uncomfortable.

Not if they were white. Not at all.

I just had an interview. “You have a great resume, are you sure you want this entry level job”? Why would you want this job? Did HR talk to you if they’ll be able to pay you what you’re used to? I knew it was entry level, but I wouldn’t have applied if I didn’t feel I would do a good job. That interviewer wouldn’t even talk to me about what I can do for them. Didn’t give me a chance. Too old, too fat, too ugly. Some things like that, I don’t know.

Then you’ll hear these same owners or managers bitching because they can’t find anyone who wants to work for them.

Find a big company facing an outstanding age discrimination class action — some may be hiring “experience” in order to cover their tracks.

That’s evil—I like that. Actually I’m working now, I was just relating to some past frustrations I had. I feel like retiring though, I got enough in savings, but health insurance is an issue.
