I don't know what to make of this. Bloomberg is, of course, bumping along on the Lefty Nutmobile. But these jobless are largely uneducated, on drugs, semi-literate, and felons. Some come to job interviews on drugs and, gasp! Fail the drug test. I do identify with the older guys who are told they are "too old" for a job.

Yep. Now that Obama is out of office and the Trump staff is still disinfecting the White House - it’s now OK to honestly address the unemployment problems.

Which are Trump’s fault, right?

Why are we hearing this now? Where were they in 2009 with ‘shovel ready jobs’???

Oh I see, lets bring this out and try to blame it on President Trump...don’t even try to go there if you want a paycheck!!!

I do identify with the older guys who are told they are "too old" for a job.

Being in IT for almost 20 years, I fear this and don't want to get laid off until retirement. But it's not within my control.

My only saving grace is I have 15 years experience in retail hardware, including management and customer service. Home Depot or Lowe's would be my first stops...if i HAD to get a job. I could teach the young whipper-snappers a thing or three.

working part-time when they’d prefer more hours

Does Bloomberg blame Obamacare's 30-hour work week limit for this?

I’d have to look again, but a few weeks ago I was looking at something else and ran into these numbers.

I don’t think we were anywhere near 15 million new jobs since 2010.

I think they could have come up with a better group of people than this for an article about long-term unemployment.

Maybe not. Maybe the real problem is something that I am hearing from a number of employers: that many people are unemployed because they are unemployable.

This has been the “face” of unemployment since Obamacare came into full force.

Probably were. However, if a job is added to the created list it never goes off if that job is lost. You'd have to subtract the number of those created jobs that didn't last. I'm betting they never do.

15.8 million jobs added since 2010? That just makes my head spin. What are they, 2 hours a day and each day counts as a new job?

I do COBOL and Java along with Unix. I already have a job waiting on me when I retire.

Part-time jobs that replaced full-time jobs that were lost.

I know your question is rhetorical but we all know that homelessness and joblessness didn’t even exist between 2009 and 2017, right? Because it would have made the golfer in the WH uncomfortable.

Why have ‘disability’ payments gone up? I doubt our jobs have gotten more dangerous. Is it being used as an alternate ‘unemployment insurance?’ Are there more lawyers abetting the increase?

They must take note when people leave their jobs, or the numbers wouldn’t go down.

They actually did under Bush.

In point of fact, the employment numbers for construction and manufacturing was at 2007 levels according to the Dept of Labor. These are the highest paying jobs available to the less educated. This tells you a lot about why Trump won the working class. A lot of those who obtained jobs in that period were paid a lot less than in construction/manufacturing.

In construction and manufacturing, you’re also butting heads with the illegals who live three families to a home, and don’t need to make as much.

I agree with your thoughts.
