I completely concur. Which is why Trump is playing the hand he has at the moment. It's no coincidence that it's the strongest possible hand to have, one involving not only national security, but an actual law Congress itself PASSED. As such, Trump's EO isn't novel or unique, it's merely an order to execute & enforce the law.

If the uni-party wants to launch an impeachment process on the basis of defying a court order that conflicts with implementing Congressional will, then what better position could Trump possibly have than this one? This is really cut & dried; there's nothing ambiguous about it all.

That's why Trump has got to push the issue all the way to resolution. If he doesn't, then what was the point of wasting 18 mos campaigning? If the judiciary is able to set foreign policy and national security, then what's the point of hanging around? Hilldog might as well won and the process of descending into eventual civil war could have proceeded apace.

My working theory - and it’s resolving clearer by the hour now - is that David Brock set Robart up to this in his quest to burn down the DNC in order to re-make it in his image.
