Yeah, and this is not the first time Chicago gang leaders have tried to use stuff like this as a bargaining chip to gain legitimacy (and taxpayer money) for themselves. In the 70s the Black P Stones made a show of transforming themselves into some social welfare organization, with free breakfast programs, but it was all revealed to be a con game. In the 90s the Gangster Disciples made a show of renouncing violence and similarly transforming (even getting some members elected to local office), but it didn’t last long, and the same thugs were always running their illegal rackets all the while trying to get federal funding as well.

Sorry for my cynicism, but most of these jamokes are total playa’s - any chance they get to game the system they’ll take. In the past they’ve brokered deals with Chicago pols (”jobs programs” and the like) that were largely just thinly-disguised payoffs.
I’d advise the Trump people to approach these characters with an abundance of caution - not “Trust, but Verify”, but rather “Verify” and then think about moving on to “Trust”. I hope I’m completely wrong, but I just don’t see these slugs giving up their drug territories and turning in their weaponry under pretty much any reasonable circumstances.
I think they believe they can trust President Trump - and they’re right.
Putin is taking note and a modicum of action.

Knarf, I’m not sure what action Putin is taking, and I’m not sure what you mean by shrugged. Not trying to give you a hard time. I just want to know the message you’re wanting to convey.

Not that I’m for a miliatary lockdown anywhere in our country, if whatever they agree upon is not followed through by the thugs, I’m willing to bet “the stick” will be a world of hurt from which the thugs will never recover/be heard from again.

Well, I don’t see what “the stick” could be, since Trump can’t send any federal troops there without being invited by the Governor. The Governor is Republican, but of a pretty mushy variety, so I doubt that is going to happen.
Yes I do see a world shift.
Obama/McCain et al seemingly trying to get us in a shooting war with Russia. Now we’re ready to cooperate.
The U.N. being called on the red carpet (so to speak).
NATO nations now saying they think it’s reasoned for them to pay more for our contribution to their defense.
That Philippines leader now backing Trump’s play.
I think China may get a bit of a surprise in short order. Trump has made it pretty clear he’s not buying their play on the islands in dispute. He’s not going to keep financing their treachery either.
Israel is breathing easier, and I think the U.N. being called to account and the obvious implications for the PLO, we may see them coming to the table with a Chicago Hood’s attitude soon. Ah..., what can we do for world peace, so to speak.
It is undeniable that there has been a shift.
I may have misunderstood, but I think Putin is a lot more ready to have a go at a reasoned policy regarding Iran and it’s plans too.
This seems to me to be a reverse Atlas/Shrugged moment.

Good. I’m glad we agree on that. Sorry I wasn’t clear on the Atlas Shrugged reference, but I am now.
You know, this global change would not have happened except for one man.
There are very few colossal changes in global dynamics on this scale.
This will probably be seen by historians as something on a par with the Iron Curtain coming down, the ascension of the U.S. as a global leader after WWII, or some other change in direction you may be able to suggest.
It’s hard to gauge the significance of things in the moment, but I think we’re seeing a shift back toward sanity.
I don’t think there is another man would could have duplicated what Trump has pulled off. I’m not trying to build him up, because a lot of things contributed. How much his clever actions accounted for all this will be debatable, but he was the moving force that would not take no for an answer.
I honestly think some folks see this as just another administration. It isn’t. This is something on a whole other level.
As of about 7:00pm PST last November 8th, I was still unsure if he had pulled it off.
What an amazing time to be living.
So, how is that kind of deal worked out?
The thugs will lower the body count from 5,000 per year, to 4,000? And what do they expect in return?
And then, they come back to ask for another deal, to lower the death count to “just” 3,000 in exchange for some guns or free housing for thugs?
