CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) - There will be no Article 32 hearing for the Camp Lejeune Colonel accused of sexually assaulting a child.

55 year old Colonel Daniel Wilson of Mason, Washington, reportedly waived his right to the hearing, which is the military version of a civilian grand jury which determines if there is probable cause of a crime involving the accused. That's according to the online website Headquarters Marine Corps.

55 years old and a Marine Colonel?

Y'don't just snap and become a pervert.

My guess (without reading a THING) is;

Some irate girl friend decided to get back at him and has made accusations he can't deny;

(Did you pick her up and your hand was on her panties ? (every dad has done it and every dad that has, has had a pang of, "Oh shit" BECAUSE of it) .... sign of the times)

I'll wait for more information, but that is my gut reaction.

'Course if the guy DOES turn out to be a perv ... cut it off and teach him to sit.

A member of the Mr. Potato Head club. Sgt. Maj Sixta from Generation Kill is doing serious time for a similar thing.

I agree with what you are saying. Angry ex-wife, etc.

However the AWOL charge causes me to question his thinking. I see also that he is being held in the brig.

Doesn’t look good for him.

AWOL.

Additional charges found during investigation.

If these charges are true, . . .
how did this guy move up the ranks?

As others have said, you don’t wake up at 55 and become a perv.

how did this guy move up the ranks?

By being a good yes man (office politician)? But he also appears to be very competent from one of the articles I read.

Of course he's innocent until proven guilty.

When my unit was sent to the Philippines years ago, we only had a few days of liberty. I used that time to see middle and working class areas and I met some local girls which might have lead to marriage had we stayed longer.

Other men went to tourist spots.

We had some devout Christian men who visited some of the local churches.

Still another group hit the clubs and the brothels. This group held a contest to see who could have relations with the youngest girl. One of the folks claimed to have had a twelve year old, with a group of her little friends witnessing her entry into prostitution. Though I reported him to the S2, there wasn't any evidence.

The military is not uniformly comprised of good people. There are martinets who want authority over others which they can't get in civilian life, and there are sex tourists.

I will wait upon the nature of the evidence to evaluate this one.

A couple things here. The military doesn’t throw O-6s in pretrial confinement on “he-said/she-said” evidence. This is probably related to his AWOL and he’s therefore a potential flight risk. It also speaks volumes about how strong the evidence is. Why would he be a flight risk if the evidence is flimsy to nonexistent?

And officers who are facing these sorts of charges ALWAYS fight hard at the Article 32 level to try to make the waters murky enough to get command to opt for a RILO (resignation in lieu of) court-martial. His not opting for that fight also speaks volumes.

I’m waiting..just waiting for somebody to claim you’re disparaging military men with what you posted.

My whole view of military vets changed dramatically when my Marine brother told me of his experiences over 4 tours in Iraq/Afghanistan. Good grief! You’d think there were former convicts serving among the ranks and it was the 1800’s all over again.

If you haven't, you might take a moment to read Chapter 24 of Book I to Machiavelli's Discourses on Livy. He describes what republics should do with heroes who later commit heinous crimes.
