The media remembers the primary enough to see Cruz as the only conceivable primary opponent to Trump in 2020. Cruz’s enthusiastic support for President Trump makes that much the longshot and strengthen’s Trump’s position well beyond the few GOP Senators that actually like Cruz. The media can’t expect to be rescued by any Cruzade from the right. So they are left with swarm of gnats frontal assaults that Trump will swat down and with trying to turn RINOs further left. But with Trump’s popularity rising the moderate squishes know better than to bail now. Also, along with a hard of Rat Senators up for re-election in red states in 2018, the few GOP Senators up include several RINOs in sold Trump states who could (SHOULD) be primaried. Keep our pressure on them!
I understand the Sen. and Mrs. McCain can’t keep from bashing Trump, but why couldn’t Rob Portman keep his damn mouth shut? “The extreme vetting wasn’t vetted.” A$$hole!
It may very well wind up being Cruz, who is Trump’s strongest defender.

Sessions never stabbed Trump in the back. Not isle as in island, but aisle.
The Republicans want to be still viable when all the Trumpery goes away. By not cooperating, of course they may well not politically survive long enough.
Trump has not more than a couple of non-enemies in the Congress.

The Republicans at the state level have more balls when it comes to actual governing.
It now apppears that an Article V Convention of the States is in order. The reversal of the 17th Amendment would be a great start.
