Green legal card holders from Trump-restricted countries may not be allowed into US

The US government will not automatically allow green card holders who traveled to countries placed under a temporary travel ban back into the United States, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

Instead, those travelers will have to apply for a waiver to the executive order that instituted the ban, the sources said. When they land, they will be taken into a secondary screening process to determine their eligibility. The countries targeted by Trump's executive order include the Muslim-majority nations of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen.

NOTE: these are people who have already gone through the vetting process; people who have been granted permanent residency; people who have made their lives here on the understanding that to fail to do so will incur penalties. What possible sense can it make to temporarily restrict their travel?

I suspect there is ample evidence of problems in vetting individuals from the 7 countries included in the temporary ban, based on data from the Obama administration. We have to keep in mind that these countries are the home base for the jihadi invasion many of us have long suspected was officially sanctioned by Obama and his minions.

It’s not arbitrary, the rationale is that the previous vetting was insufficient for people from these specific hostile/failed states.

It’s just very clumsy and very inconvenient. Which I always agree government shouldn’t be, but usually is.

“No it isn’t. It’s arbitrary abuse of power. Vetting happens BEFORE valid paperwork is handed out. Detaining people with valid paperwork for hours and never charging them with anything is abuse.”

Try entering our country through Miami Immigration... Happens all the tiime.

Because the vetting was not proper. Are you are a member of a terrorist organization ? There. Just vetted you. Already know the answer. Lol.

A POLITICO reporter tweets:
“Seung Min Kim ;@seungminkim · 35m35 minutes ago
Two people at SFO, one at Dulles, and two at JFK face “imminent deportation” because CBP won’t comply with court order, advocates say.”

If true, this will be interesting (from an advocacy group so I assume it’s at best misleading)

It’s very arbitrary. He picked a few Muslim countries but not others. Including not the one most of the 9-11 hijackers came from. That’s basically the definition of arbitrary.

Not like this it doesn’t. They’re looking for specific patterns of behavior, this isn’t. This is just a broad stroke, one that conveniently ignores Saudi Arabia even though they’re the big terrorist factory.

Just my `umble opinion, but you and SeekandFind, posting his endless CNN tripe, concern trolling Trump over doing what he said he would do, supported fully by US law ... take it over to Reddit.
We don’t need the diabolical adherents to Islam in the US or its devils advocates on FR.

“They’re looking for specific patterns of behavior, this isn’t. “

Again, it sounds as if you havent experienced this personally, so you generalize. Your call, but my experience and that of others says your facts are wrong.

“conveniently ignores Saudi Arabia”

Trump started with Zero’s list. You do not know what else is happening.

You make up stuff on this thread and insist it is therefore true. Your call.

When they re-enter the country, the agent says “Welcome Home,”

They don't say that to me, and I'm a US citizen. They look me up in the computer and ask if I have any fruits of vegetables, and usually ask where I've been and why I was there and how long I was away.

>>This is a bad misstep here. Without specific evidence you have to honor existing green cards and visas. He just declared we are a nation whose word will not be honored. If he wants to give more scrutiny to future applicants great, if he wants to put people who bounce back and forth on the FBI watch list awesome, but you can’t have the country going back on its word.<<

If you applied for a green Card under false premises then the US revoking the card is not a case of failing to honor our word.

But they aren’t saying they’re under false pretenses or revoking them. They’re just detaining these people for hours for no good reason. They’ve got no evidence, they’re just harassing people that have already been approved.

I’ve experienced it coming over the Nogales border. But I also understand how I fit a profile, long hair at the time, nothing to declare, a little tipsie. These folks are just being blanket detained.

He made his OWN list, and his list sucks. Not making anything up, just pointing out facts you apparently find inconvenient.

He never said he’d arbitrarily decide to ignore valid visas and green cards. And it is NOT supported by US law and is already in the process of being thrown out by the courts. Sorry you find the truth inconvenient but out here in reality this is a very bad move for Trump.

“These folks are just being blanket detained.”

Just caught in motion during a rule change. It will be resolved.

“He made his OWN list, and his list sucks.”

Obama’s executive order and list, reused by Trump. List is great.

They have valid visas and green cards. That’s not a rule change, that’s blatant abuse of power and going back on our word.

The list sucks. It doesn’t include Saudi, any list of terrorist countries that doesn’t include Saudi is toilet paper.

“They have valid visas and green cards. “

A visa is never a guarantee.

“The list sucks. It doesn’t include Saudi, any list of terrorist countries that doesn’t include Saudi is toilet paper.”

And yet you do not know why - ok what else is happening behind the scenes. Perhaps you should wait for more facts before making your claims.

Without proof to revoke they actually kind of are. At least in countries that respect the rule of law.

Doesn’t matter what went on behind the scenes. For 8 year we bitched that Bush wouldn’t admit Saudi was a source for terrorism. For 8 more years we bitched that Obama wouldn’t admit it. And now here’s Trump doing the same thing. Until Saudi Arabia is on that list it is an arbitrary pointless bad list. PERIOD. We already know the important fact: Saudi Arabia is the #1 terrorist exporting country on the planet, and they’re not on the list.

Happens all the time. These poor people got caught in a change of rules. No more. It happens.
