We’re good at design and engineering, but challenged to be competitive in manufacturing. Tariffs could level that.

I read yesterday that Pena-Nieto’s approval rating was at like 12%. I wonders if ol’ Fox is thinking about another run.

He’s not totally wrong. The US Auto Industry did collapse in the 70s and 80s because it made terrible cars, allowing the Japanese to get a large toehold in the market.

Other causes were overly generous benefits to the unions and a failure to anticipate rises in gas prices.

The cars are much better now but we can’t pretend that US cars were any great shakes until competition forced the Big Three to up their games.

Whereas only products of the highest quality come out of Mexico.

Any mediocrity in US cars is due to the massive number of federal regulations, CAFE standards, etc. that are imposed on them. When you HAVE to design a vehicle to fit regulations first and then anything that is actually automotive takes second place you get mediocre homogenized vehicles where the selling points aren’t performance or carrying capacity or low operating costs, etc., but things like wifi connectivity and sound systems that have no bearing on how well the vehicle functions as a vehicle.

“He just moved Michigan in to the Republican column for the next five cycles.”

Actually he just moved organized labor in the manufacturing world into the R column, not just Michigan.

Vicente Fox is such a LOSER!!! He did nothing to help his country, now he’s running his mouth off. He’s as irrelevant and intelligent as Barbara Boxer.

He has no idea how inconsequential he is and who he’s dealing with. Mr. Failed Ex Presidente of Mexico:—do not mess with The Donald and the USA!! You will lose BIG TIME.

Perhaps into the late seventies, which was the fault of automobile Manufacturing as their mindset was still on big expensive gas guzzlers. Meanwhile Mexico was still producing the original Volkswagen Beetle and they really only got 25 miles per gallon. But finally after pressure from the Japanese Auto industry American designers finally got the message as sales on large low mileage vehicles rang in the death knell for that type of vehicle at that time.

There has been a Resurgence in large vehicles with low-to-moderate mileage and I think that that is due primarily to disposable income and the need for Interstate travel and the vehicles that can handle very long distance driving.

Face it, traveling over long distances requires a car that is somewhat larger than a buzz bomb which is what most Euro economy class cars and Japanese economy class cars really are. Those economy-class vehicles are not comfortable over long hauls. So in a sense El Former Presidente Fox of Mexico is somewhat correct, but his thinking is about 30 to 40 years in the past, and he recalls a philosophical period in automobile manufacturing that is long since reached obsolescence.

Yep, those Mexican cars are well known for their quality, lol. So says the bellowing, blustering faux-Castilian mestizo whose country has no domestic auto industry. The plants they have are all foreign and they're there because it's cheap.

American media is becoming quite anti-American. Are there many Mexican news channels constantly inviting Americans on their shows to rip the people and curse the President? This guy is all over the news channels. Why?

Yeah, our domestic autos are pretty mediocre.

They only become world-class after hispanics make the subtle, tasteful modifications they’ve become known for.

So, ex-Presidente Fox, what exactly does it say about your country that a couple million of your citizens are desperate to GTFO every single year. Cars you can (and we have) improved vastly in a matter of a few years - that’s just engineering, and we have some pretty good ones here (yeah, remember that we landed men on the moon and brought them back alive - what’d Mexico every do in space?). But your people, and your system, haven’t changed - and likely won’t, at least until they get rid of corrupt SOBs like you.

GFY, Fox.
