I’m sure their manners will be better compared to the last embarrassing couple.

I watched the press conference through, thought it went well but May is going to get dinged in her domestic press for constantly appearing to defer with the sideways looks and hand gestures.

The media is acting like that's scandalous or something - it's common sense and common procedure. If you are not an expert in a particular field, you hire someone who is, delegate responsibility to them and defer to their expertise - not completely, or in all instances - but you do for the most part because that's what you hired them for, to handle that stuff on your direct behalf. Yet it looks kooky to the media hacks.

The military has always been against enhanced interrogation because they don’t want it used as a justification to abuse our own potential POW.

Carter was a working President. Hard working. Sadly, MOST of his efforts were misaligned.

He was elected because Republicans were tainted with Nixon. Even Ford—though Ford ALMOST won the popular vote.

If Ford had won 5,600 votes in Ohio and about 18,000 votes in Wisconsin, he would have taken the electoral college. That is how close it was in 1976.

Anyway, IIRC, Carter had a Democrat Congress who hated him because he was an outsider. Sound familiar? But Carter was a pacifist and didn’t fight back.

I also recall maybe TWO things Carter did that were worthwhile. He helped deregulate the airline industry, which fostered competition and more choices for consumers.

He also fostered the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel-a treaty that still stands today, even with all the turmoil in the middle east and leadership changes in both countries. Anwar Sadat, President of Egypt, was assassinated by Muslim whack jobs because of what he did with Carter and Menachaeim Begin, the PM of Israel.

Oh, I also think Carter began the deconstruction of AT&T’s monopoly on telecommunications. This also resulted in better consumer choices. Carter, I think, began this process...Reagan finished.

Anyone who remembers better than me, correct me if I am wrong.

Bottom line, though, Carter was weak. He ignored our friend the Shah of Iran and allowed the fuse of Islamic terrorism to be lit. He didn’t stand up to Russian aggression in Afghanistan, which eventually led to Osama bin Laden and the Taliban taking over.

Carter also was clueless on most economic issues. Interest rates and unemployment soared.

I think he utterly blew the doors off

Me too. He looked so at ease was funny, direct and quite serious

They both answered all the questions they were asked I think or very close. The answers were illuminating.

Deferring to General Matis though he disagrees with him is insightful.

He is in control of events and not the other way around.

Shockingly refreshing to see a president taking their oath and responsibilities to the nation so seriously. Simultaneously having the executive level experience and connections that weave through all layers around the world, accompanied by lots of charisma.

We picked a winner this time freepers - we ain't never seen a president like this before.

God bless president Trump he is on fire!

That’s an excellent point. The same was true of Reagan - the media spent so much time during the campaign demonizing him as a clueless ex-actor and a dangerous radical, that he got a major boost when people got to know the man they had been smearing.

Example: President Carter personally decided who got to swim in the White House pool. Trump knows how to delegate.

Trump needs to relax more at his news conferences, like Nixon!

One more plus: Carter named Paul Volcker as Fed Chairman. At the time, the U.S. had double-digit inflation, because of Johnson-Nixon spending (Medicare, Vietnam, EPA, closing the gold window in 1971, wage-price controls). Volcker raised short-term interest rates to 21%, breaking the inflation, and causing a recession.

This also let Reagan win in a landslide, and the Republicans to win the Senate. Then in 1985, Bob Dole became the Republican Senate leader, and in 1986, passed the biggest tax hike in history (to that point). And the Dims re-took the Senate in 1986.

@18:49 and 18:52 , two separate members of the press as the President and PM are leaving, are heard on mic saying:

“I’m going to like this guy”

I could not tune in but people on Facebook just said he was terrible and our POTUS is so unpatriotic. Honestly, I felt as if I were reading about BO.

TO me it’s because despite what people have been told, beyond being a great manager, I think he’ll really enjoy the ceremonial Head of State duties. Bring some lustre back.

Yes. Agreed. He was stateman-like, humble, personal and humorous. Dignified as well. I noted a comfortable and natural his demeanor.

Also, he showed he is not thin skinned, like his predecessor.
