This article is getting waaaaaayy ahead of itself, trying to pass off mere speculation as Trump policy...Fake news..
For gods sake, stay out!
This is the first policy mistake by Trump.
And it’s a very serious mistake.
Disaster on the horizon.
The only real safe zone that is viable in Syria is Assad-held territory.
We should support Assad and Russia in establishing law and order throughout the territory of that country. Political, material and air support.
In Syria, where ISIS and other jihadi groups run wild and have plenty of weapons and bombs, it would take a full division to protect every camp.
And, I agree, it’s stupid to suggest that should be a US division.
Those camps will be under constant attack, or they will be havens for terrorists to rest up and get medical care.
Or both.
So we should ship US troops to Syria?
that’s just plain dumb.
1. Pull out, let them die?
2. Keep shipping them over here?
We could just butt out of course.
No, if you liquidate the jihadis and stop the support of them (by our "friends", KSA & Gulfies, Israel, CIA, et al.), all of Syria will be a safe zone.
If Russia or Israel aren't the ones screening who should be allowed to reside in such safe zones there's not a snowball's chance in Hell that they'd be anything but safe places for weapons caches and troop training or refitting along with hosting nice anti-Trump PR visits from people like McCain and Shawn Penn.
The US has such horrible intelligence left on the ground anywhere in the ME that they couldn't tell you squat about anyone who isn't extremely careless about how they use phone and/or radio communication. And forget, "Mossad fills us in" trash talk, Mossad has always only told us what fits with their own plans, not whatever we should know and need to know. That fact will never change, either.
The first thing the US has to do is admit that all our vaunted "Intelligence" amounts to nothing but one big gossip machine gathering up things that are about on par with the two headed baby stories in rags you see at the checkout in a grocery store. Like them, they make the occasional correct call, but also like them, nine tenths of what they have is just something that they know will appeal to the prurient tastes of their customer base.
Just look at how the outlandish, horribly transparent, totally unsourced and unvetted, lie about Trump and prostitutes having a piss fest on a bed in a Russian hotel was pumped up as a big deal. Is that actually the kind of information our Intelligence services think is important to our national security? From the way the head Intelligence Muzzie anxiously briefed everyone and leaked to everyone, yeah, they think that's "actionable information"
IMHo, knowing who some jihadist leader caught the clap from or purchased his favorite little boy from is more important to most of the people now supposedly analyzing what is gathered than knowing where and when they meet their fellow commanders.
Once we admit that, we can start to fix the problems we have in the ME and elsewhere.
