WikiLeaks slams Trump for refusing to release tax return and urges people to send them 'so we can'

WikiLeaks slammed President Donald Trump on Sunday (22 January) for refusing to release his tax returns and has called on people to submit them so they can post them online. The whistle-blowing outfit's request came via Twitter after Trump's senior adviser Kellyanne Conway told ABC's This Week With George Stephanopoulos that the president would not be releasing them contrary to his pledge to do so during the campaign season.

"The White House response is that he's not going to release his tax returns," Conway said. "We litigated this all through the election. People didn't care. They voted for him, and let me make this very clear — most Americans ... are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while President Trump is in office, not what his look like."

Don't particularly care about POTUS' tax records one way or the other. The only reason WHY I would be interested is to know about any given POTUS' tax records is:

- To check claimed charitable donations (to see if actions of support lined up with verbiage of support. For example, if a politician claimed to be pro-life but contributed to pro-abort organizations, that would be problematic)

- To check investment profits / losses (to see if politicians put their money where their mouths are...same thought process as above. Follow the money)

In President Trump's case, I don't have too many illusions about him one way or the other. He wasn't in politics up until this campaign and so would have charitable donations that would assist him in building his business (and buying off government support) and likewise with investments.

Now having said that, going forward, I would be very interested in seeing his returns now that he is in office. And my interest disappears once his 8 years is done.

As to Assange, he's being Assange. Sometimes what he does will benefit us and sometimes it won't.

I don’t care about his tax returns, but I do care about him doing what he says he’s going to do. If the Clintons refused to release their tax returns, plenty of people here would be complaining.

I don’t care either, at this time they only want ANYTHING to use against him, does not matter, even trivial stuff like editing a spelling error on his tweet, which happened the other day.

They are frothing at the mouth to find any shred of a reason to file impeachment.

Seriously? Getting impeached because you corrected a spelling error?

Such weirdness, so sad.

My fave is the heightgate scandal. The 1 inch height discrepancy on his drivers license.

Trump should offer to release his tax returns as soon as zer0 releases his college transcripts ans real birth certificate

His answer, all along, should have been a resounding, “No”.
There is no legal obligation for him to release his tax returns. This whole tax return BS is a political game, and has been from the start.
Get over it. Trump won. What is in his tax returns will not change that.
Sadly, seems we are in for four years of this stupidity.

The only reason I would want to see President Trump’s tax returns is to see his genius in legally avoiding the payment of federal income tax.

Then millions would emulate him.

In all truth, the IRS does not want us to see them.

Well, maybe Trump can abolish the IRS and end the audit?

I don't care either way.

I didn't vote for Trump other than to see him demolish the tyranny established by totalitarian leftists. I owe Assange a lot of thanks but anything that gets in the way of the mission is expendable.

If the Clintons refused to release their tax returns, plenty of people here would be complaining.

Individual tax returns? Nonsense.

The fact is, there is absolutely no legal requirement for any person to release their individual tax returns, and such documents are fully protected under the Fourth Amendment.

This whole ridiculous "tradition" was started back in the 70's, with Ford, I believe, and there's no reason to continue the misguided and un-American practice.

The IRS has everyone's tax returns, and if there's anything improper regarding them, then there is a system of due process in place for the IRS handle that.

So Julian Assange and Wikileaks need to get their heads straight about an the American Constitution, and an individual's Right to the security of such "papers" under the Fourth Amendment.

The only reason the Media and Left (but I repeat myself) insist on such things is so they can inflict political damage on conservative candidates. For a candidate who decides to disregard the tradition, the political damage should be limited only to that fact.

I think President Trump should make a stand on this issue, and thereby dispense with its future use in American politics...

Reading comprehension is very important.

Let me try again, a little slower this time:

The opposition will focus and distort anything he releases so why should he give them private details about his far flung business empire - paid protesters would only use the info to hurt those businesses and the employees. Trump’s case is different from the average tax return. A business person should not be required to put his family legacy in harm’s way.

Is this some kind of game where the MSM wants to make Trump say "uncle?" I am among the "most Americans" who are more interested in what my tax returns look like under Trump.

Have not had much interest in seeing the tax returns of politicians.

Constantly hounding President Trump over this issue accomplishes nothing, except to make me wonder about the motives of those demanding to see his tax returns. Maybe they should learn what genuine journalism is, and start practicing it, other than complaining that they cannot criticize the POTUS over his past tax returns.

Talk about a witch hunt! This is simply more pointless and disgusting behavior by Democrats and their accomplices in the dysfunctional media.

Ditto with Judicial Watch. We on FR were cheering them on during the Clinton Administration, booed them during the Dubya administration, and cheered again during the Zero admin.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if Judicial Watch starts hammering the Trump administration with FOIA requests.

It will likely be a combination of loss carryovers and depreciation deductions, not really too much genius involved. I do think they would probably show that he doesn't make/have nearly as much money as he claims. That said, I couldn't care less about his tax returns.

You make a good point. Let me just add that Trump was very shrewd for not releasing his tax returns during the campaign. All that would have done was provide grist for the Media-mill. Things may be different now as the power relationships have changed now that candidate Trump is now President Trump.
