I wouldn't use the word excellent, but they did get better after a $100 million bond vote passed.

I bet you were driving on the newly fixed roads -
.
Drove all over the place last spring.

Live 10 miles North of Tucson.

I agree with that, and further..., if you privatize the roads, where to the private owners get the funds to keep up the roads?
By necessity the roads become toll roads.
Today, by necessity cities, counties, states, and the federal government take care of roads.
There are certain things that the government should manage.
EZ Pass is simply a way to charge you for passing over a road you already paid for. What part of that do you not get?
EVERY ROAD IN THIS NATION IS A ROAD THAT WAS BUILT WITH GOVERNMENT FUNDS!
The few that aren’t, charge you tolls. Those tolls are in addition to all the gas taxes that are paid by every motorist every time they fill up.
What you propose to do, is set it up so we have to pay hundreds of dollars to drive cross country each way.
What the Sam Hell are you thinking?
Once again, did you build the road in between you and the home across the street?
Why not?
I advocate for Capitalism when it makes sense, which in most instances it does. When it doesn’t, I think we have to look at the situation and admit that it doesn’t.
As I understand it, roads are sold to private enterprises that either own the highways or have very long term leases.
The ownership or leases are necessary because of the massive costs associated with the creation and maintaining of the roads. It takes a long time to recoup the outlay.
If this wasn’t true, the leases could be set up for five or ten years, and then bids could be taken again, and the same or a new entity would take over for another term.
Sadly, it can’t be run that way because the costs of a highway won’t be recouped in five or ten years. It will take decades before it will.
This eliminates the possibility for competition, which is the way Capitalism thrives.
Capitalism cannot thrive when it comes to our highways.
Yes, toll roads can be Capitalism, but they aren’t forms of it that allow for the normal outlay/profit/competition model.
Once a 40 year lease is awarded, what competition will there be for 40 years?
competition ?
there are dozens of routes, modes, and times
Sorry Voich. Maybe we can agree next time.
