Lifelong Woodmont Country Club member resigns over Obama golf controversy

The mayor of a tony Maryland suburb resigned from a prominent golf club on Monday because the club might not welcome President Obama as a member.

Jeffrey Slavin, the mayor of the Montgomery County town of Somerset, wrote in an email that he would not remain a member of Woodmont Country Club because of a recent fevered debate about whether Obama could join.

Some members of the historically Jewish club have said they would not welcome Obama, who has played there four times during his presidency, because of his recent decision not to veto a U.N. Security Council resolution criticizing Israeli settlements.

“He has created a situation in the world where Israel’s very existence is weakened and possibly threatened . . .” longtime member Faith Goldstein wrote in a late December email obtained by The Washington Post. “He is not welcome at Woodmont. His admittance would create a storm that could destroy our club.”

Another member, attorney Marc B. Abrams, called it “inconceivable” that Obama should be in the club because of his stance toward Israel.

Jewish liberalism will die a slow death, but clearly, its on its way out. Did Barry Hussein think that he could isolate and embarrass the nation which has the relatives of so many American Jews living there? Did Hussein ever think people wouldn't be mad at how he seems to think Islam Terror against Israel is OK? That being the President under whose watch BDS/anti-Israel movements among young skyrocketed wouldn't have consequences? Or being the POTUS under whom Democrats became tied between supporting Israel and supporting Muslim savages?

Been to Woodmont a couple of times as a guest. Anecdotal, but I never saw any black people there.

This man was interviewed during the WMAL morning drive show here in DC. He embarrassed himself, in my opinion, as he didn’t appear to know the basics of the ‘controversy,’ admitted that the membership committee had not made public its discussions, and he didn’t even know if Obama had asked to join. He quit before knowing if the club would actually deny membership or even offer it to Obama.

In an interview last week, a member of the club, not this guy, said that what was being discussed was to give bh0 a ‘free’ membership that costs $89,000 to join and around $10,000 annual dues. Many of the predominantly Jewish membership were objecting to having bh0 as a member because of the anti-Israel position he has taken during his presidency and especially for abstaining on the UN vote a couple of weeks ago that condemned Israel and denied that Judea was ever a part of historic Israel
