Because he’s stupid and they’ve tried to explain to him that they amount to the same thing but he cannot understand it? I
don’t know.

The Border Adjustment Tax is complicated in structure but not in effect. In EFFECT it is an import tariff combined with an export subsidy.

Why Trump has decided he hates it is to me an interesting question, but I don’t know the answer to it.

and we'd probably still have 95 million American adults out of the work force.

The problem with you is you are an Anti-American bigot. You represent everything wrong with America. It is about time you globalist bullies got some push back.

Yeah, I know, you’re the Freeper who doesn’t acknowledge comparative advantage—and would give up the US being the leading supplier of advanced technology worldwide, for the sake of an economy-shrinking tariff.

You are actually the one who doesn’t understand and believe that the US, including manufacturing, would be much more competitive with lower taxes and fair trade, not a tariff.

Regulations and taxes need to be reduced but they are in no way the biggest threat to Americans. 3rd world wages and no tariffs are killing them. Republicans and “Conservatives” have to decide if they are Nationalists or Globalists. You cannot be both. Trump is making them pick a side and I think it is the greatest thing ever. Go Trump, Go!

No, I’m sure they would love to have both.
The citizens need to say no to a VAT unless they repeal the income tax.
One or the other, but not both.

The USA has millions of Americans of all abilities, motivations and IQs. The economy needs to sustain all of them. If you think the people you probably call the "underclass" needs to be thrown under the bus for the sake of globalization then you are a Marxist tool. By throwing them under the bus I mean either exterminating them out right or paying them to do nothing like cattle to breed, eat and excrement. I find that thought reprehensible.

There is no correlation between trade and being a leader in advanced technologies. The USA won two world wars and sent a man to the moon when trade was a small sliver of the overall economy.

Wait, what shade is he trying to make them pick??

The congress has a proposal to enact a 20% import tariff across the board, and a 20% export subsidy across the board, and Trump came out last night in sharp opposition to it, because it’s “too complicated.” Explain to me what is brilliant about that.

I personally agree that it’s a stupid policy, but it seems like something TRUMP ought to have agreed with enthusiastically.

Slavery is a form of comparative advantage with regards to labor. Are in favor of that too?

Aaahhhh! No VAT in ANY form!VAT is an evil tax, designed to en sure the people don’t know how much they are paying, while allowing the government to stealthily increase it via regulations.

I think Trump is looking for a more refined tool, to use to control countries trying to cheat us. Congress is offering a sledgehammer designed to increase revenue. Yep,the party of stupid!

The BAT is NOT a tariff and is stupid indeed. What is needed is a clean flat tariff, so Mr. Trump's instincts are correct.

What is annoying and aggravating to the Nationalist is the Globalist supposition that we are NOT is trade war now. That is Goebbel-esque Free Traitor™ agitprop. It is like telling the rape victim that they are just having sex and if they fight back then it will be rape. What color is the sky in your Free Trade world?

The American people are not afraid of fighting the trade war we find ourselves IN NOW. Any temporary inflation will be an inconvenience on the road to self sufficiency and prosperity. We need to take the off ramp on the highway to socialism that the globalists are happily leading us down. Yes of course there will be some, perhaps 30%, inflation for durable goods. But this is a one time adjustment. I would prefer to go slow on tariff duties and gradually increase them over time but even the Draconian instant 30% is OK with me.

But there really is no alternative at this point. The wage inflation of the 1970's will not, cannot, happen. It is obvious that the American worker in 2017 has no leverage in this regard at all. A tariff will cause commodity inflation with domestic re industrialization and increased supply steadily picking away at it.

But House Speaker Paul Ryan suggests that comprehensive tax reform with a "border adjustment tax," as proposed by House Republicans, could achieve Trump's goal minus the trade war.

Two things, the BAT is not a tariff and also WE ARE INA TRADE WAR NOW!
