NFL Support of Colin Kaepernick Tanked 2016 TV Ratings

A large share of fans responded to the NFL’s tacit endorsement of Colin Kaepernick’s anti-American message by refusing to tune-in to games, prompting a huge decline in TV ratings. Aside from his disrespect for the national anthem, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback also sparked outrage by donning socks embroidered with pigs wearing police uniforms.

Early in the season, ESPN and network broadcasts never missed an opportunity to spotlight Kaepernick and his followers taking a knee during the pre-game ritual. Fans, though, saw Kaepernick’s protest as thumbing his nose at America. As a result, regular season ratings for 2016 dropped 8% to 16.5 million viewers per game from the 17.9 million who watched games during the 2015 NFL campaign.

The leagues failure to nip the disrespect of the flag and the anthem in the bud caused it to spread to other teams.
I have not watched any games this season after being a 50 year fan.

F-— ‘em!

Cowboys will beef up their defense, so they should be better next year.

Right there with you, there were a few teams (owners) who told their players you BETTER stand for the Anthem, I still didn’t watch them, won’t watch the playoffs, NOR the SuperBowl either.

“Nevertheless, the Daily Caller reports that despite the steep decline in viewership the NFL takes in more revenue than any other professional sports league thanks to multi-billion dollar TV contracts.”

Yeah, um I’m guessing they’re going to want to renegotiate. I don’t care, I don’t have a TV. Out with the old, in with the new. Kinda cool.

Kaeperneck was the straw but the attitude remains. Screw’em. I hope football goes away. It should. It makes kids stupid.

The commercials suck too. That’s another little ‘tradition’ that’s become utterly boring and predictable.

Besides you can watch all the commercials on YouTube without having to watch the game.

It must have been tough for Dallas fans:

Watch the NFL to support their team or refuse to watch in protest of Kaepernick?

It seems that Dallas Blue overrode MAGA Red for most of them.

They took their lead from other broadcast venues who mistakenly believe that the liberal agenda carries the day with everyone but a few middle America bitter clingers.

(not even a mile and a half from where I live).”

Sorry for you having to deal with all the added Yankees that will be coming in. But looks like your new mayor isn’t going to have as many as he thought since Dallas lost. Hope it’s not yet another Democrat boondoggle. Seems to me like the money would have been better spent paying down the debt or funding the retirement coffers rather than spending all that money on the special venues downtown where most people don’t venture. Also looks like SJL’s area is really getting a spruce up.

Noticed a new batch of graffiti on the sound barrier walls close to the Shepherd exit on 59. Wonder if the Mayor has plans to clean that up as well as all the trash which has accumulated on the feeder roads.

Have to drive into the city once a week to go to client’s offices but am not planning on doing so the week of or the week after the Super Bowl. My son and dil have to go in every day to work and are really dreading the trip.

I've been a NE Patriots fan since 1963. Bought season tickets for the 1966 and 1967 season when I was in high school for 42.00 for seven games. Had to give them up when I went to College in 1968.

I did not care that Kraft and Belicheck were democrats. In 2015 Brady was seen at his locker with a MAGA hat and said so what. The night before the election Trump read the endorsements from Brady and Belicheck. Kraft did not endorse Hillary as he did with Obama and Kerry. I know many freepers do not care for the Pats, but consider what the NFL Commissioner did to smear Brady and the Patriots but said nothing about players blowing off the National Anthem.

After Trump finishing his Oath of Office, my most satisfying moment of 2017 is seeing the NFL Comish giving the Super Bowl Trophy to the Patriots and hoping Kraft doesn't shove it up__!

The Superbowl commercials, like much else in pop culture, have been ruined.

They used to be big surprises worth waiting for. The commercials were well made, often funny or at least interesting, and featuring products we were all familiar with.

Now we are all firehosed with teaser commercials that reveal way too much of the final ads ... like so many movie trailers these days.

And the commercials are more MEH than Marvelous. They are confusing, unfunny, preachy, and poorly scripted.

And the products are a bunch of no-name websites and apps that few have heard of: basically the corporate equivalent of the hail mary pass.

I never thought I'd ever wish for soccer to overtake football here in America, but at least the soccer hooligans make for an interesting show!

Why I like watching soccer is that there are no breaks, it’s 45 minutes straight, with no TV timeouts.

Watching a four-hour long football game is getting unbearable. I usually just tune into the fourth quarter now, if a game is close, and I have it on my laptop to listen and then watch when something interesting happens.
