Trump Could Pay for Wall by Closing Tax Loophole

President-Elect Donald Trump could get Mexico to pay for a wall along the southwest border of the United States and close a giant tax loophole at the same time, according to several experts.

Building the wall — and making Mexico pay for it — was a signature issue of Trump’s victorious presidential campaign. So critics pounced when he indicated earlier this month he intended to ask Congress to appropriate funds to begin construction. Broken promise, they chortled.

But the government cannot spend money without congressional authorization, and Trump has said Mexico will reimburse the Untied States for the cost. He has not laid out how that would happen, but the campaign floated a number of ideas, including using money seized from drug dealers and threatening to cut off money wired to Mexico by illegal immigrants living in the United States.

Last week, retired IRS officials Rob Warren offered the idea of cracking down on a loophole that sends billions of dollars to illegal immigrants working in the United States. Using the money for a wall would not exactly be the same as receiving a check from the Mexican government, but it could be a relatively pain-free way of paying for a wall that experts believe could cost $15 billion or more.

Warren wrote in an online publication known as The Stream that the IRS estimates it collects $468 billion less each year than it should, a statistic known as the “tax gap.” He suggested that Trump stop allowing illegal immigrants from Mexico to claim child tax credits.

“Doing so would both fulfill a campaign promise and reduce the Tax Gap,” wrote Warren, who added that many of the dependents claimed by illegal immigrants do not even live in the United States.

Absolutely from the drug and gun running.

We'll save a few bucks by not giving them our weapons, too. And probably save American lives.

We are being bled dry by illegal aliens claiming child tax credits, some for dependents that may not exist or are in Mexico.
One year I remember reading the IRS sent out $42 billion worth of checks to illegal aliens, some 200 to the same address in Atlanta.

I would love to see businesses, start w the federal government, paying employer taxes on every single worker, regardless of their immigration status. Start with the VA.. they are getting cheap, foreign “doctors”.. without paying employer citizen taxes.. not sure about union slavery and immigrants though.

If an illegal alien makes enough money to send $1,000.00 to family in Mexico and still have some to buy a pickup , groceries, etc., show me his W2! Illegals don’t need no steenking W2.

Is anyone at the IRS awake. /ret
The just answer would be a 100% tax on anything going to Mexico, w/o W2!

"But the government cannot spend money without congressional authorization..."

Really?! Did anybody bother to tell Obama that? Oh, I forgot -- he's a Constitutional scholar, so I'm sure he knows it already...

MILLIONS can be had by simply putting a 10% surcharge on every dollar sent to foreign homelands-effectively having Mexicans and illegals pay for the wall.

How about ALL OF THE ABOVE: Seize drug money from illegals, seize property, cut off tax breaks, cut off remittances... do it all.

article is BS. Congress already approve the spending, years ago.

The issue, is Trump wants Mexico to pay us back.

For example, a company builds a product - they use their money to do so, but when they sell it, the receive $$$ thus the customer “paid” for the product.

Why the hell is everyone confusing this? Just because the general budget buys the bricks does NOT mean Mexico won’t pay for the wall, just as in the above example.

Wasn’t money appropriated under W? It was just never spent.

Wouldn’t that be enough to get started?

My impression from IRS officials response to this travesty is that they had orders from on high to not look at this too closely.

I think that will change with a Trump administration.

I remember that and thought I had the article saved in Favorites but it’s not there so I looked it up. Found it on The Blaze but I can’t copy/paste the link from there for some reason but the numbers were $46 million for 23,994 IRS filers...And I bet not one stinkin’ thing was ever done about it and it probably has been continued in thousands of different addresses/cities.

Here’s a link to a different publication - same info. No doubt John Lewis voters!!!!!

“”That was not the only Atlanta address theoretically used by thousands of “unauthorized” alien workers receiving millions in federal tax refunds in 2011. In fact, according to a TIGTA audit report published last year, four of the top ten addresses to which the IRS sent thousands of tax refunds to “unauthorized” aliens were in Atlanta.””

Would this work?...

For all the drugs confiscated, fly them back to where they originated, (or to somewhere that they are legal) and auction them off.

Put the money toward the wall.

For that matter, why are aliens here illegally with no income—at least none reported—receiving tax `credits’/refunds?
Stop the payments, kill the EPA right out the gate and turn the money over to ICE. Four more days until we become sane nation again.
