A concealed handgun permit holder saved a police officer who was being ambushed in Arizona at I-10 in Tonopah (January 12, 2017). From the UK Daily Mail:
When he started to block lanes and put out flares, a suspect ambushed him, opening fire then physically attacking him.
The trooper was shot at least once near his chest and fought to the ground by the suspect. The man was on top of the officer and getting the better of him, slamming the troopers head into the pavement.
Thats when the passerby spotted the altercation and asked the officer if he needed help. The officer said yes, and when the suspect ignored the passerby and continued attacking the trooper, the Good Samaritan shot him dead. . . .
More on the story is available here. A second case occurred last November 14, 2016 in Florida:

It just doesn’t get more ‘feel good’ than that.
It really doesn’t. I sure hope they name an elementary school after the brave Good Guy With a Gun for his quick thinking, his courage and his skill.
And for gawds sake, since this wasn’t in California, is it possible that the dead puke’s family won’t feel the need to sue the Hero With the Gun?
This was such a bizarre event out in the middle of the desert. The trooper was responding to a call from a driver heading towards California who said someone had shot at his car from the median. As he was heading in that direction, the trooper came upon a rollover SUV crash where a woman had been ejected into the roadway. As he was setting flares, he was shot and attacked. Two more vehicles stopped to help him, one who was headed to California with his wife and children in the car, who also happened to be armed. The police now think the shooter may have been a passenger inside the SUVwith the woman. So who shot at the other car?
Any word on Whom the DOA ambusher was? I’ve seen nothing.
I would really enjoy these stories— but for one thing.
They all refer to the person doing the rescuing as a “permit holder” or “licensed” or some such thing.
We have the 2nd Amendment — the ONLY protection we need for a right God gave us. We don’t need to kowtow to the state for a permission slip, and I for one REFUSE to do it.
I have been wondering the same thing.
I must have read a dozen articles on the shooting and none of them mention who the now dead criminal was.
Shortly after I acquired my permit, they did away with the requirement in Arizona. I renewed it anyway...you just never know when the laws will suddenly change. That’s the problem with all these individual state laws, when the 2nd should be the only law you need. The permit holder in this case was headed to California, where, most likely, he would have been considered a felon the second he crossed the state line.
You don’t need a permit to carry concealed in AZ.
From the book, Collateral Crimes:
.
Its not legal for me to carry a firearm in California. He smiled and said, But this is Arizona, Johnny.
Great story! Kudos to this Good Samaritan. President Trump should award him a medal.
I hope the officer recovers. Prayers for him and his family.
I agree.
An illegal alien??
I’m glad he made sure.
With what caliber and where did he hit the suspect? I really would like to know the details. And, did the guy scream when he got shot? Someone tell us!
“Any word on Whom the DOA ambusher was? Ive seen nothing.”
There is a whole lot more to this story. I am waiting for any updates.
Yes the whole story is really strange.
I would guess the part about the motorist saving the trooper is correct but the rest of the story does not make much sense.
A woman killed in a rollover. Someone waiting to kill a trooper after an accident?
