The head of the D.C. National Guard, Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, said Friday that he has been ordered removed from his command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.
Schwartz’s forced departure will come in the midst of the presidential inauguration that he has spent months helping plan alongside D.C. police, the U.S. Secret Service and other top District officials. He will turn over command to an interim as power transfers from one president to the next, and just before the inaugural parade marches down Pennsylvania Avenue.
“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.
“My troops will be on the street,” Schwartz, 65, said. “I’ll see them off but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said that he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”
Schwartz said he would oversee duties in a command center and then depart at 12:01 p.m., retiring from the Army.

I spotted the same thing you did. The WaPo's article is written in passive voice. Who did order this? The WaPo doesn't tell us. It may mean nothing, but it may be more deceit from the MSM.

This is the first commander who was surprised and not understanding why he wouldn’t see his guys back afterwards. If he was appreciated by DJT, he would have his explanation. It seems he failed a test.

Approximately 37 Years in National Guard, four degrees and no active duty? He’s a career politician in uniform.
Doesn’t make any sense. First, it is highly unlikely Trump would initiate a memo relieving the General PRIOR to taking office. Second, I doubt Mattis would do anything since he hasn’t been confirmed by the Senate and won’t be until after Trump assumes the Presidency.
Further, why would you relieve the NG Commander DURING the Inauguration? Schwartz is in charge of all troops in DC that day. I could see relieving him the day after or day prior, but not in the middle of the Inauguration, I would think this would create problems with the chain of command.
With all the groups posturing to demonstrate against Trump and vowing to disrupt the ceremony, this makes no sense at all. I sense bad things could be in the wind.
I think you hit the nail on the head. DT would rather have his own people in charge when the community organizer and his agitators start throwing shit at the fan.

Seems the Washington Post has a big ‘in’ with ‘intelligence services’.
Maybe this is a ‘warning’ to scare people off from attending. Or maybe they’re attempting to show how smart they are to ‘catch’ something before
‘it’ happens.
Or maybe they’re ‘in’ with the thugs who will attempt damage because they hate the people in flyover who will be attending.
Only time will tell the motive... for the act ...and for the insider coverage.
So this has been known for a while and the new guy in charge, at least for now, is up to date on everything, and, I assume, capable enough to handle any scenario.
Don’t forget that the real military presence in DC is the Old Guard.

My guess this is from the general guidance Trump gave that fired all the ambassadors as soon as he’s sworn in. This position is one that the President appoints so he’s gone too.
Why would Obama appoint Schwartz in Jan. 2009, when he was already appointed by Bush in 2008.
That would suggest that the appointment typically extends to the end of a presidential term.
If that is the case, then this story is a big nothing.

From looking at his assignments, he’s been in Washington DC, he’s never been in a battle, which is exactly what I assumed. When one starts talking about battles, you are usually safe to assume they are desk warriors.
The D.C. National Guard has a combined strength of 2750 (Army: 1350/Air Force: 1400). Why is it being commanded by a Major General?
Hmmmm.
