U.S. paying salaries of tens of thousands of non-existent Afghan soldiers, police..

“John Sopko, special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction (SIGAR), said the salaries of ‘ghost soldiers’ is just one of many ways Americans’ money is wasted in Afghanistan – all for rather modest gains.”

What gains? As soon as the U.S. troops are finally gone from Afghanistan, the Taliban will take over again. The whole Afghan misadventure has been a fool’s errand, a massive, ghastly waste of American lives, money, and materiel.

The U.S. government is paying the salaries of “tens of thousands” of non-existent Afghan soldiers, police, teachers and civil servants, a top Pentagon official said Wednesday in reporting on the scale and variety of misspent U.S. money.

...

His comments summarize a SIGAR report that aims to help inform the new Congress and administration of the most pressing reconstruction challenges in 2017 and beyond. Sopko’s message was one American leaders have heard before.

Where are the billions going? Are US taxpayers funding international terrorism? Did Obama include this in his victory lap - Afghanistan was his.

As much as I love to dump on Obama, this was going on under W too.

Happened in Iraq also.

Donald Trump was elected in 2016 because enough Americans finally figured out that they've been governed manipulated by crooked f#%&ers from both major political parties for years.

Same thing happened in Iraq. Lots of money flowing freely and little or no oversight.

Afghanistan was a total waste of lives and money.
No one has ever tamed Afghanistan and no one will.
We should have bounced the rubble for a few months with continuous B-52 raids until nothing was moving and called it a day.

I’m betting all this money goes to terrorist with Obama’s full knowledge.

We need a leader who gives a damn about wasting money.

This is stupid.

We need a commission incented government waste hunter. Let the private sector find the waste and keep 10% of what they find.

We’ll be in Afghanistan indefinitely. Or at least until the collapse of our economy. It’s where Empires go to die.

Some of it. But mostly this is kleptocrats blackmailing us: Give us money or we’ll let the head choppers take over.

Given the frequency of divided loyalties of many Afghans, we should not be surprised if some U.S. money gets funneled to the Taliban through the corruption that takes place.

Afghanistan has many rare natural resources that can’t be found or at least in proper quantities any where else.
This is why we are there.

The fact that we are still at war and entrenched in Afghanistan and Iraq is a disgrace. Syria and Libya were war crimes by Obama and Clinton. We fight wars to kill and destroy and not to play nice nor be compassionate and understanding. It seems like many American interests (government and NGO) have taken advantage of war torn countries for power, greed and folly.

There was a high profile case here in town about ten years ago.

A guy owned a company that was upfitting old Soviet APC’s for the Iraqi military. Went over there asking questions he shouldn’t have been asking, and turned up very dead.

The cultural marxists are doing lots of this. Squirreling away money to use elsewhere. I would like to know where the $500 million dollars for illegal alien defense fund came from. Anyone know?
