Most Americans, including half of independents and Republicans, support a ban on checking handguns into aircraft baggage
In recent years, America has, unfortunately, become used to mass shootings, but the recent mass shooting by an Iraq War veteran in Fort Lauderdale has sparked some concern. In the shooting at the Florida city's airport, the man, Estaban Santiago, had checked a handgun into his baggage. After retrieving it from the carousel he loaded it in a bathroom and then allegedly murdered five people, exposing a weakness in airport security.
The latest research from YouGov finds that most Americans (57%) support a ban on checking handguns into luggage, while only 26% oppose a ban. Support for a ban is strongest among Democrats (72%) but even 49% of independents and Republicans support the measure.
The partisan divide on the issue of handguns on planes is markedly smaller than the divide when it comes to general laws on the sale of handguns. While 73% of Democrats want it to be harder to buy a handgun, only 32% of Republicans agree.
All because of the Fort Lauderdale airport massacre.
Most people have no idea that peaceable Americans like me travel with guns in their checked baggage all the time, and NOTHING bad happens. Now, you watch, the governments will start taking away another freedom based on a bogus push poll.
When they do it, I will refuse to fly anywhere. Even if it gets me fired at work. This country is full of such stupid Chicken Littles who would trade the sanctity of their mother's marriage bed for a little security. I'm sick of them.
The baggage is inaccessible during the flight. No big deal.
and so it goes. Denying law abiding Americans yet another right to protect themselves while traveling. All in the name of public safety.

As I’ve said before, if the guy flew in, rented a Car from Hertz and ran down and killed scores of people crossing the street or on the sidewalk to get to the Terminal, would these same dolts think that Rental Cars at the Airport should be outlawed?

This is ridiculous.
That’s because they are not given all the information. Hunters routinely take their guns in checked baggage. If they would cite the trillion passenger miles flow between shootings caused by checked weapons they would think differently.
Also, this was a perfect example of the FBI & Military failure. He should have never been traveling in the first place. I would not be surprised if the next time we see him that he will be hopped up on psychotropic with his brain fried and looking like the Arizona and Colorado shooters.

Indeed, especially since it’s not going to fix the general problem at all. Anyone can just carry a gun into the baggage area from outside the airport! It’s very unusual for someone to fly to a destination and then attack there... In this case it was a psychotic individual who would have already had his weapon confiscated in a sane world.
In most cases, a general terrorist type would probably just drive a few hours to an airport and then go from there - no checked gun required.

Me too. Regardless, I doubt that checked handguns will be banned given the makeup of Congress and the current climate in the US.

Was the restroom “Gender Neutral”?
That will become a problem when the restrooms are put off-limits. Can’t “Load Your Gun” in the restroom.
The baggage handlers have access. And lots of Muslims work as baggage handlers. A Muslim connects with a TSA employee and delivers a gun to him in his luggage.
It’s the same polls that had hitlary up 12 points a week before the election, and we know how that turned out.

In ALL American airports I have flown in to ANYONE can walk in to the baggage claim anytime they want.
What is amazing is that somehow we still all get our bags with zero checking or security.
