I recall the tale of onetime Sen/prez candidate George McGovern. He decided to buy a hotel for his retirement years, figuring he’d have a tidy, reliable income.

He was forced to declare bankruptcy b/c, he said, he could not keep up with the expensive rules and regulations govt inflicts on business owners.

McG said as a Senator all the rules and regs made into law seemed like a good idea....he had no idea of the burdens they inflicted on others.

That was a great, no-nonsense place.

The bearded, white comedian guy from Rebel Media also was a New York City restauranteur and he detailed his travels, it was absolutely mind-blowing, how much red tape and harassment those poor hard-working people put have to put up with.

He finally threw up his hands and said f it.

It’s like NYC hates small business owners.

“The NYC Department of Small Business Services makes it easier for businesses to start, operate, and grow, including by helping businesses navigate important City regulations,” said spokesman Nick Benson."

Oh, I bet they're a big help.

Answer to stifling burden imposed by big government: bigger government!

It’s like NYC hates small business owners.

Government at all levels is subsidized by large business owners to hate small business owners. There will probably be a shiny new Applebee's in that vacant space, soon enough. :)

But they never see the connection between their voting patterns and the stifling regulations.

This comment is the best testimonial there will ever be for term limits for senators and congressmen. Serve for a term and then go back out to society to live with the results of what you did on the hill.

Wow.
If the guy had any principals; he would have come back into politics to try to fix the evils he inflicted on the rest of the nation.

“California, here we come...”

Not a good idea. It was either Forbes or Fortune magazine that claimed California was the worst state to start a small business. It ranked 50 out of 50.

It’s pretty pathetic. New York City and California should be the best places in America for small business. Instead, they’re the worst.

I’m surprised the Daily News rag would publish this as they are normally a stooge for the establishment and very anti-Trump.

One of my reasons for relocating to NYC a couple years ago was so that I could have access to the thousands of great restaurants there. I have fond memories of going to a different place for lunch every day back in the 1990s when I went there for business. Great lunches for under $5 and I’m not talking about food trucks either.

Now it’s a struggle to find decent lunch for under $15 even at a food truck. I usually bring my own lunch to the city or I take a client to lunch so I can expense it!

The word “Travel” does come from French “travail”, meaning work, labor and task.

Regulations such as General Tso’s “chicken” should actually contain some chicken.
