It's time for Republicans to take 'the road not taken' and design a health care system for the benefit of American citizens.

NO!! It is time for the GOP to get the federal government entirely OUT of the health care system, and allow free people to freely choose their own options, offered in a free market, very very lightly regulated and overseen to curtail abuses, preferably by STATE agencies. Period. Anything else is simply another avenue on the Leftist path to failure.

Yes, but reality has a way of rearing it's ugly head...

The truth is we don't allow citizens to die on the streets AND that means we're paying for health care for the poor BUT we're paying top dollar for crap.

Here's the truth: Hospitals treat people who show up to be treated in their emergency rooms. Private hospitals can get out of it in non-emergency situations - everyone else (doctors) - and all other hospitals - would get sued.

What do you they charge for a case of sniffles? The sky's the limit.

Hospitals writes off most of this stuff and WE THE TAXPAYERS PAY FOR THOSE WRITE-OFFS AND HOSPITALS jack up prices for private pay folks (like you and me). The result is we pay... pay MORE for LESS.

A solution is start with the truth. WE ARE TREATING THE POOR. A ‘solution’ is to do it cheaper and better than it's being done NOW. Then create systems that encourage ‘the poor’ to move up - voluntarily - into the next level of health care - something much closer to ‘free market’ care. That can be done with the right incentives.

Your solution works for the middle class and above - but the truth is many of us have children or grandchildren who might be in the ‘not insured’ category... and the solution of forcing them to buy insurance they don't need or risk being financially wiped out is a false choice. Even the chronic poor can be assisted into responsible choices without sacrificing them to the wolves.

My position is we can do better than the usual. The ‘usual’ is designing a system that benefits Insurance companies (ObamaCare as it was originally drawn up) or doctors (Republicans) or Hospitals (members of both parties who get ‘donations’ from companies that want to keep their taxes low).
