“Coats is not going to be DNI. Count on it. He’s a dolt party loyalist with no intel experience, at all.”

That’s what I’ve always thought! BTW, your “SHTF analogy” is great!

Coats is an honorable man - but does not have sufficient experience in this area.

DT needs a shark that forces the underlying concerns across the agencies - and not the ivy league dolts in HQ that think that they are smarter than the seasoned professionals.

There is some speculation that Trump will not fill the DNI position in order to strip away a layer of bureaucracy and reorganize how intelligence is organized and delivered to the White House.

Thanks for posting that and I hope you are right and Trump does just that. I was about to recommend doing away with the DNI Office for just the reason you gave.

“There is some speculation that Trump will not fill the DNI position....”

I hope Trump abolishes the Director of National Intelligence and all of its bureaucracy that has developed since it was created. It adds a political layer to the intel field. Competent directors of DIA, NSA, and CIA should be hired to clean out the political types and do their intel jobs.
