Russia is reportedly deploying nuke-ready missiles in the province of Kaliningrad which borders Lithuania

PRESIDENT Obama has deployed US special forces troops along Lithuania’s border with “aggressive” Russia.

Tensions between Washington and the Kremlin have reached Cold War levels amid reports Vladimir Putin is deploying nuke-ready missiles in the Russian province of Kaliningrad – which borders Poland, Belarus and Lithuania.

And Lithuanian Defence Ministry spokeswoman Asta Galdikaite confirmed America has offered additional military support following Russia’s annexation of Crimea.

She said: “The United States was the first to offer additional safety assurance measures to the Baltic countries following the deterioration of the security situation in the region after the annexation of the Crimea.”

She added: “US Special Operations Forces presence in Lithuania is one of the deterrents” against military threats by Putin’s aggressive regime, reports the Express.

US military chief General Raymond T Thomas told the New York Times that America has a “persistent” presence in the Baltic states bordering Russia.

He added that many former Eastern Bloc countries are “scared to death” of Russia and the vulnerable states are “desperate” for America’s leadership.

The US and its Nato allies will send battalions of up to 1,200 to each of the three Baltic states – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – and Poland by spring this year, reports the New York Times.

Lithuania’s foreign minister Linas Linkevicius confirmed Russia’s military activity in Kaliningrad is terrifying the region.

He said: “Iskander missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads have been deployed. There are S-400 missiles and modernised jets.”

Because he can. We have moved assets such as anti-missle devices to the border. We are using Iran as an excuse, but they could also be used against Russia.

The build up has been making Russia nervous. I imagine that some of the hardliners at the Kremlin would like to initiate a first strike or something to restore the balance of power to them.

I expect that Russia would like to have those former Russian satellite states back as a buffer between them and Europe.

Lol, it is the “Dept of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service.”

I was able to back up the recording to when they pinned it on him. You should have heard the credit they were giving him. He probably wrote it himself!

If there should be a war it appears that we have no intention of winning it.

So on the one hand NATO is too weak to matter. On the other hand, a handful of anti-ballistic missiles designed to knockdown incoming missiles (from Putin’s allies in Iran, by the way) are reasonably seen as a grave threat to Mother Russia who, mind you, has tens of thousands of missiles capable of destroying the USA and all of Europe. And, then, you conclude a Russian first strike might be necessary to restore the balance of power. Is there any limit to the contradictions of Putin apologists? Obama, thankfully, will be gone in days. Putin’s threats to peace and security will not end then. I look forward when patriotism and conservatism mean defending freedom-loving countries and the USA over the real globalist threat, Putin.

Putin has made no secret of his desire to reassemble a non-communist Greater Russia that looks geographically a lot like the old Soviet Union.

NATO is more likely poised to strike Israel.

Nonsense. NATO is led by a US General, GEN Scaparrotti. He, like his predecessor, have identified Putin as the threat. They both have been stalwart supporters of the State of Israel.

I have watched several news conferences - Putin appeared to be pretty upset about the US/NATO deployments.

I happen to feel that what he did in the Crimea was war - though undeclared, and I don’t like that we apparently just let him do it with no real objection.

I will be so glad when Mattis and the other Generals are confirmed, so that we can go back to an intelligent foreign policy.

Putin is upset. He is upset because he wants NATO and the USA to cave to his demands that he be allowed to re-establish the equivalent of the old Soviet Empire. He fears that without foreign policy successes and with the decline in his economy due to his recklessness (and declining oil prices) he will finally be held accountable for his 17 years in power. He cannot leave office and not be prosecuted for his many crimes against the Russian people. He’s been able to play to Russian chauvinism card for some time, but that can only work if he pushes up against a feckless foe. He’s partnered with Iran, Assad, and recently has been trying to partner with the Taliban. He’s an opportunist and a gangster statesman.

How would we react if Putin had troops on the Canadian border?

There is obviously far more to the story about NATO deployments than we are being told. I don’t like the smell of this. Can anyone make a rational case for these deployments?

I was thinking in terms of the members of the UN "security council" who voted against Israel.

Putin couldn't put troops in Canada because they'd never be invited into Canada. These nations where the US and NATO allies are putting additional troops are there at the invitation of the democratically elected governments. These governments are in NATO. These nations want Americans and other NATO allies there for one reason. To defend them in the event of a Russian invasion. They are neither poised or capable of conducting an invasion of Russia. Neutral nations like Sweden and Finland are considering joining NATO out of sheer fear of Putin and his aggressive behavior, which he has demonstrated in Georgia and in Ukraine. Even now, Putin is conducting an undeclared war on the Eastern part of Ukraine using Russian soldiers and equipment inside Ukraine. He has moved nuclear weapons nearer to Lithuania. He issues threats and keeps large numbers of troops ready to invade neighboring countries on short notice on their borders. His army fires artillery rounds into Ukraine, while claiming Russia is under attack. Family members who lose loved ones fighting in Ukraine are not even given the facts about where and when their loved one died in this senseless and undeclared war.

There are many people in denial about the real nature of Putin, but those nations closest to Putin know he is a threat. Obama removed the last US tanks from Germany in 2012 and pledged to reset relations with Russia to Russia's advantage. If the USA was a threat, why would that policy have been executed. Putin took advantage of the naive Obama.

Obama’s expulsion of Russian diplomats was political theater. Being a fool he underestimates the consequences of his actions.

Hussein Obama has no choice but to put something on the headlines that diverts the presstitutes and the public from the real stories that should be there.

Is Hussein being successful? YEP

Are you talking about the corrupt DNC fixing politics in the US?

Are you talking about HIllary's criminal pay for play State Dept scam?

Are you talking about massive voter fraud where the Demonrats loaded dead voters and foreign invaders into the polls to vote for Hillary?

Are you talking about the Obama administration hacking into state servers? That blockbuster has disappeared from the papers.

ETC. Hussein is winning because he put Russia on the front page, not the Demonrats real stories.

Obama seems hell bent on leaving Trump a big bag of crap to deal with the moment he takes office. The President with the hairless chest suddenly grows a pair the moment he’s about to leave office knowing that Trump will have to clean up the mess. This is an anarchist move straight out of the Alinsky playbook. Once a radical always a radical.
