No victim, no crime. IMO.

How is this different then someone hiring an under cover cop to do "hit". Again no victim but there certainly was a crime. Lots of times the cop stop a criminal before he/she commits the crime. This guy clearly intended to commit at least two crime. Sex with a minor and soliciting prostitution.

But some men can control themselves. Not all would be Alan Dershowitz, legal mind extraordinaire, whipping his pants down on Lolita Express and then protesting a bit too much. Some men can say no to the child.

“But some men can control themselves.”

Yes, MOST men can control themselves with strangers. But pretty much all must regularly engage in some type of consensual sexual activity in private (even if alone). And MOST men are attracted to adult females which makes it easier to fulfill (even if all they have are images)

The dangerous are the ones that can’t control themselves and mainly attracted to children. It’s a very very tiny fraction but they do tons of damage

For prostitution stings there has to be clear intent to trade for sex. IE: An exchange of money, or whatever.

This guy only ALLUDED to that. He wasn’t given a chance to even meet a person. Nor back out at all like they give you in prostitution stings. It is a thought crime, a word crime, and it is orwellian as all hell.

He continued on with the intent to have sex with somebody he believed to be underage. That is a crime. It’s one thing to do it by accident or deception, but when he procedes to commit the act after becoming informed, well, it’s kind of like diving into a pool after being told the water was drained, it’s not going to end well.

Correct.

And that is how it always is.

The lubritarians here want the cops to be wrong all the time.

Why would he believe them? They said they were 19, they change their story. They lose all credibility at that point. Why would anyone believe anything they say? How could a jury possibly believe anyone would believe anything they say after already lying like that?

Suppose the guy that meets up with the fake fifteen year old lies and says he is 21 but he’s actually fifteen. Should the cop be charged with soliciting a minor?

Well I'll grant that you do have a point, he was not given the chance to back out once he met the 15yo girl. And I am inclined to agree that an exchange of money should be a trigger. LOL, I'm slowly coming around to your side of the argument.

There was no 15 year old girl. There wasn’t even a 17 year old girl. So....who did he attempt to have sex with? A completely false person built on lie after lie after lie to arrest someone. It’s all fake.

Well like I said, I am coming around to your point of view. To me the trigger would be the exchange of money. No money was exchanged so I do not see where a crime was committed. One might be able to make a case for solicitation of prostitution. I need more details to reach a conclusion.

The mere agreement or offer to complete a sexual act in exchange for a fee (i.e. money) is enough to support a solicitation charge. This also means that both parties to the agreement—the person offering a sexual service and the person accepting the service, can be charged with prostitution.
