Oglethorpe University and Rutgers University have joined the list of schools making sure students don’t get too stressed out by final exams and jobs.

The Oglethorpe Counseling Center, for example, recently sponsored a three-hour “Stress Free Zone” on December 9, the last day of classes, where student could go to enjoy puppies and henna tattoos.

It was all good till someone mentioned that Donald Trump won the election.

Then these snowflakes returned to their fits of crying and suddenly the puppies didn’t matter any more.

So sad. So terribly sad.

Actually, the puppies are kinda cool. We also put out games, show movies that were popular when they were kids and serve comfort foods like grilled cheese sandwiches.

Harmless!

Not allowed anymore. Drinking age is 21.

All four of our young adult kids support trump. 3 voted for him, the other is too young still.

Two are in college. One of them is an online college and she works full time too. She’s completely out of the snowflake loop.

The other is an engineering student at a very small school that doesn’t have time for nonsense.

He’s starting his first day on a new internship job today. We suspect that he’s not going to be joining the family for our annual Christmas vacation back home. We’ll find out tonight.

While we’re going to miss him, he’s a big boy and can handle life.

That’s what’s missing with the snowflakes. They have no real life skills. Real adults accept what’s handed to them and roll with it. (kind of like we did in 2008 and 2012)

Whining and crying and asking for puppies is the actions of a five year old. These little darlings are emotionally stunted and much of the blame goes toward their parents.

The job of parents begins the day the child is born. Each day, they should become more and more independent until the day when we bid them adieu.

A few months ago, I was at the office and heard a lady who’s about my age walk by and comment that she had to get home to make her kids lunches for tomorrow.

I asked how old the kids were and she said 23 and 25.

1. Kick them out.
2. Make your own stupid lunch.

I told her that my kids were responsible for their own lunches by the age of five. Every single day.

Bah, back when I was in school we relieved stress the old fashioned way. By getting wasted, having sex with people we just met, and hazing freshmen!

If I get stressed out, I just swing one of my cats around by the tail. The only time I cry is when one snags me with the claws before I get ‘em swinging good.

These kids need to learn that the “secret” of becoming an adult is working your way through problems and adversity and not curling up into a little ball and crying for Mommy and Daddy.

At my son’s college a few years ago there was an outsider that came in and started shooting. One well-loved guy was killed, but due to another student hero (pepper-sprayed and tackled the shooter) the shooting was stopped.

In the days after there was an imprompto effort of the local dog-walkers to use the campus (which is surrounded by city streets) for their dog walks so the kids could interact with the dogs. All done on word-of-mouth and social media.

An aside - the evening of the shooting, the paper had a photo of hundreds of kids on the commons. Circles of 10 to 20 kids each filled the photo - the kids were praying.

I asked my son if that was something the school administration had a plan for in such cases. “Um - no. We just did it.” It is a Christian college, but still, I was pretty impressed.

You’re right. We just went to the local pub. You won’t believe what they do now to reduce stress. These students live in alternative universe.

The other day I read about the law suit against Columbia University. The young student claimed she was raped and carried a mattress around campus for a year. Columbia gave her course credit for doing that.

I was shocked when I read the complaint. Warning: not only is the language raw, contents are hard to believe.

Do parents have any idea of what goes on at these institutions of higher learning? These students go into debt thousands of dollars so they can party for 4 years.

Glass of scotch on ice near the fireplace worked for me after finals. But now the drinking age is 21.

Ought to make the voting age 21 again.
