J’accuse! May Allah look down in his mercy upon Aleppo — no help is coming from us
National Post (Toronto, Canada) ^ | Terry Glavin

Aleppo has fallen. The last and sturdiest bastion of the Syrian uprising is gone. The Battle of Aleppo is over, the revolution is finished, and the Syrian mass murderer Bashar al-Assad has won. Russia has won. Iran has won. Hezbollah has won. The United States has lost. The United Nations has lost, and the bloody war in Syria, already having taken nearly half a million lives, goes on.

Aleppo mattered, it should go without saying, but it’s worthwhile enumerating what did not matter. You can start with Aleppo’s 31,000 dead and proceed from there through each and every statutory war crime codified by the International Criminal Court.

Mass murder by chlorine gas. Massacres of innocents. Bombardments by Russian jet fighters. The deliberate targeting of hospitals and clinics. The firing of mortar rounds into crowded neighbourhoods. The terror of barrel bombs dropped from Syrian army helicopters. The starvation siege that followed the city’s encirclement by Shia death squads and Assadist militias on Sept. 8.

None of that mattered, not the hourly imagery on Instagram and YouTube and Twitter of corpse-strewn streets and decapitated infants, and not the gut-wrenching final goodbyes uploaded to mobile phones or sent by text from the survivors in the rebel-held ruins of the Old City, the al-Shaar district, and the backstreets of Sheikh Saeed.

This is what we have become. This is the depravity to which we have all sunk. Aleppo has fallen and so has humanity. We are disgraced

Sad to see so many tainted journalists cheering on terrorist groups just because Saudi Arabia wants to make a pipeline through Syria and has to kill Assad to do it.

Secular strongman
or
Fundamentalist Jihadis

It's actually an easy choice. The better of these two alternatives is currently winning the war in Syria.

Globalists/Progressives are sad about that, but I am not.

#### the Sauds. They still owe us in blood for 9/11.

Worked in those beautiful buildings.

And I want us to collect.

I count this as a good thing.

Better the islamists are killing each other over there, than having more of them coming over here.

Saving us the trouble...

I don’t understand. I thought the U.S. considered Assad a “reformer”.

This is the eventual outcome of the crazed Islamic jihad story - blood, death, and destruction. When they do not have the civilized world to attack they attack and kill each other.

Meanwhile the “heros of Aleppo” the Leftist is caterwauling about are firing into Syrian Army conveys trying to move refugees out of the city. I suspect they will find mass graves where the “heros of Aleppo” murdered men, women and children who did not measure up to their notions of Islamic purity.

If this is what the Leftists define as “humanity” we want no part of it.

I was 10 when gthe war ended in Europe.

We had no television then but we did have newsreels swhown ain movie houses, including during saturday matinees which most children attended.

We all saw the horror of the camps that the Allies had just relieved. wE SAW THE BRUTALITY, THE STARVATION, THE GAS CHAMBERS. AND THE MASS GRAVES.

The grown-ups all solemnly swore: NEVER AGAIN.

They made a convention that told us all that where genocide is happening the nations of the world individually and collectively have a duty to do everything possible to stop it and punish the perpetrators.

We all felt assured that IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

One side is driven by the desire for personal power while the other side is driven by a sick ideology. Between the two, lamentable though it is, commend me to the former.

It was a.nice sentiment but it was as effective as the one about the First World War being the war to end all wars.

First, any chance that Americans as people would support this war died when our proxies started slaughtering Christians. The Turks may not care, the State Department may not care, but ordinary Americans simply will not abide this.

It would not have been that hard, when we were recruiting, arming, training, and financing the jihadists, to make it plain to any and all, Turks, Saudis, jihadists alike, that if you want our support you must protect every hair on the head of any Christians you find in your midst, for we are a Christian country. If you want our support, you must protect Christians among you...

... and if you don’t, we will abandon you and rain fire down on your heads. How hard would that have been? For a normal president, not hard. For Obama, of course, impossible. But the day their Al Qaeda and Al Qaeda In Iraq proxies started committing genocide on our dime any chance that Americans would support them was gone. So Trump is going to wipe out Al Qaeda In Iraq (ISIS) and Al Qaeda in Syria we will abandon to the Syrians and the Russians.

The United States has lost.

I agree it's a tragedy, but I don't think the USA has lost; obama did. I find it refreshing to have learned that this is not our war at this time. And as long as muslims are trashing other muslims -- well, I'm not exactly going to shed any real tears. Let Russia have those bustards; they have for 40 years anyway.

We all felt assured that IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

Well, there goes THAT pipe dream.

And this is the first time since WW II that it has been shattered? Please.

It will ALWAYS happen again because of the depravity of people.

And for the author to couch his opinions in terms of "winners" and "losers" is disingenuous at best. The interpretation of history rests on the biases of those who write it.

He's just trying to get his foot in the door..
