Since these days it’s all about “fake news,” I think it’s time we say something about fake Jews, and not just because it rhymes.
First you should know that as a writer this makes me automatically “a lonely guy.” I am not “sociable” and belong to no organizations. Never did.
A lady in shul once asked me if I am “affiliated.” I did not know what she was talking about. Finally, she explained that it would be helpful if I became affiliated.
“We need people like you,” she insisted.
No, I don’t think so. I did not think so then and I do not think so now. Something about “organizations” makes be nervous and suspicious.
Lately even more so do I feel okay in abstaining from being a joiner. Join what – J Street, ADL, Hillel, Peace Now?
Those are the first that come to mind as being Jewish but being on the wrong side of Jewishness. They do more harm than good.
Wait. I forgot Chuck Schumer, our Jewish New York Senator. Schumer is all in for Keith Ellison to run the DNC.
Schumer is not bothered by that fact that Ellison is connected to Louis Farrakhan and I’ll bet Schumer is affiliated. That’s what I’m talking about.

If your sister is Jewish according to Jewish law (also by Israel’s definition) - and on top of it self-identifies as Jewish, then yes... she is to me an ethnic Jew.

Thank you for the history lesson, I am a Christian Zionist Conservative myself. However, I do stand on what I said. You can identify yourself however you wish, but that does not make it so. Those “Jews” that are not observant and substitute the God of Marx to the God of Moses, are hostile to the state of Israel and sympathetic to their enemies that work for its destruction cannot be called true Jews, but false ones. I will apply the same definition to Christians who worship debauchery and Social(ist) Justice as equally fake.

Well you laid out your religious-political definition for what constitutes a “Jew” or “Christian”. Of course you are enrirled to your own criteria.

Self-identification of course alone is insufficient.
But when Jewish and Israeli law say that someone is Jewish by blood, then that person certainly can claim to be Jewish.

I think one of his grandparents was. He was raised Catholic, however, but pretty much rejected Christianity as a young adult. He hated Christians of any kind as well as Jews, but reserved an especially twisted hatred for Jewish people, blamed them for all the ills of Germany. If he had any form of religion at all as a mature adult, it was Teutonic Paganism. A lot of occult crap in Nazi circles, apparently.
I’m aware he blamed the Jews for economic downturn in Germany at that time, and wasn’t a practising Christian, certainly not a practising Catholic.
Actually, I always thought he was an Austrian, at least by birth. Very sad how someone whose bloodline connects to a certain ethnicity or religion should rise against his or her own people and commit vile atrocities. Always thought there must have been other reasons.

I have friends who were Jewish and have become Christian. They're former friends no longer consider them a fellow Jew so in reality, whatever they claim to the contrary, Jewish folk agree that it's primarily a theological category.

It is primarily an ethnic category and understood as such by by Jewish law, Israel and most Jews (and non-Jews) in the world.
Read up on what defines a Jew.
Your friends who converted to Christianity are still ethnic Jews, if not by cultural attachment then still by blood.
