Rand Paul Explains Why John Bolton Should Be 'Nowhere Close' to the State Department
Townhall ^ | 12/11/2016 | Cortney O'Brien

Posted on 12/11/2016 8:34:24 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Former Republican presidential candidate and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has a strong opinion on John Bolton's candidacy to serve in Donald Trump's State Department. The former UN ambassador is being considered for the No. 2 spot in the agency, yet Paul argues that Bolton's endorsement of the Iraq War disqualifies him from working in the administration.

“John Bolton doesn’t get it. He still believes in regime change. He’s still a big cheerleader for the Iraq War,” Paul said. “John Bolton is so far out of it and has such a naive understanding of the world.”

Bolton should get "nowhere close" to the State Department, Paul concluded. He is preparing to block Bolton's nomination.

As for the top role in the agency, Trump is likely to tap Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson, who's facing his own opposition from lawmakers concerned about his business ties with Russia's Vladimir Putin.

Trump said he was against the Iraq war, against regime change in order to promote ‘democracy’ but he also wouldn’t have left it, like Obama did. He would have taken control of the oil and prevented ISIS from taking over. And he wants to destroy ISIS

It’s not neo-con but it’s not isolationist, either. That may be why Trump may want to have both Tillerson and Bolton

I have never read Elizabeth Warren, and never will.

All the old conservative lobby groups (IIRC Eagle Forum and Conservative Caucus and the like) used to focus on personnel in the executive branch. It is nothing new in the conservative movement. Maybe you are new to it?

Bolton thinks we have to do stuff. We don't. People who believe in institutions like the State Department are by in large cheerleaders for action. The less we do the better.

“That would be a badge of honor in D.C., considering the environment (swamp?).”

So you don’t think in 25 plus years there would not have been something of value, something he felt he needed to do for his constituents, or the whole country that needed a legislative remedy? With that thought process, WTF, let’s just close Capitol Hill and send everyone home for good! I surely do hope the Congress enacts legislation that makes the Second Amendment the RIGHT that it is for once and for all. Would you consider that valuable legislation?

AS "DEPUTY" he'll not only be under the command of President Trump, but also whomever is SOS.

Your opinion is an uneducated one.

“So you don’t think in 25 plus years there would not have been something of value, something he felt he needed to do for his constituents, or the whole country that needed a legislative remedy? “

You answered your own question. He served about 25 years. Do you think his constituents would have re-elected him if they felt he did not offer constituent services, or speak on behalf of freedom, liberty and the Constitution?

“I surely do hope the Congress enacts legislation that makes the Second Amendment the RIGHT that it is for once and for all. “

Congress doesn’t legislate Constitutional rights, thankfully, or there wouldn’t be any left. They only limit them. You may have heard, Congress passes all kinds of legislation in violation of Article 1 Section 8. Would you consider that type of legislation to be “effective”?

I NEVER said anything at all about "questioning" Trump, which you haven't done.

Neither Paul has EVER "kept their oath of office", so you can take that canard and place it where the sun don't shine, along with your anti-Trump stances.

You "find it amusing", do you, to "listen to Republicans attack Libertarians......". Perhaps if you were better educated, you just might find yourself objecting to and horrified by the nonsense that comes out of the Pauls' mouths, the idiocy of the LP and ALL of the loser candidates they have ever put up, and the looney paleos and so-called "CONSTITUTIONALISTS" who are and have been all to ready, willing, and able to sh*t all over the Constitution, for their own benefit/agendas.

Rand Paul has never won anything but the senate seat he holds and he is doing a piss poor job in that. Who does he think he is second guessing the next President Donald Trump.

As far as I can tell, one positive aspect of Rand Paul (and his dad I suppose) is his consistency of position. He didn't support the Iraq War when it began and he's not going to support it, nor those who engineered and cheerleaded it. Other than that, I haven't followed him all that closely, so I only know that he tends to take the libertarian position, as his dad did.

With regards to the Pauls in government, I will say that they may not be perfect, but I'd be happier with a lot more Pauls in office in place of all of the ,let's say, McCains and Grahams, and McConnels, and virtually every Democrat.

Keeping it simple: there are 3 branches of government. Paul is in the legislative branch. Trump will be executive branch. Paul’s job is to ask questions about executive branch nominees.

That was a brilliant concept when the Founders set things up, but it effectively died the day the major parties became our only choices - essentially back in the late 1800s.

I’ve never been to a Tupperware party, diddums and calling my posts “sadistic insults” is puerile, inane, and specious.
