" ...Im gonna have a business as solid and as respectable... ...as Bullion's Dry Goods Store. Solid, solid, respectable... ...Republican business. That's what makes America, Harley. My folks were Democrats, John. And look where it got you. A lifetime on the range, and sweating in the summer... ...and freezing in the winter, and sleeping on the ground... ...and fighting the wolves and the rattlesnakes. No, no, Harley. There can't be a finer calling in the whole world... ...than being a Republican businessman.
I don't like to dispute you, John, but didn't you always vote Democratic? Well, that was when I didn't know any better. Harley... ...I want you to do me a favor. Don't tell anybody here in Cheyenne I ever voted Democratic. - You'll do that for me, won't you?"

Funny movie, they were both great in it.
Dunno how many old movies from the 40s on ...that i pretty regularly find popping into me old mind-housing-group these days...prolly especially true w/most “geezers” my age.
Some fine fliks lately too (among many pretty bad)...but many, many from old stars wearing fedoras or cowboy hats.
On The Beach comes to mind right now...Greg Peck,Fred astaire,Anthony Perkins, Ava Gardner, etc.
Saw that one on U-tube...must be a couple years back now...prolly longer..
Just a n after thought...

They were best friends in real life. In the 1930s one winter evening in manhattan they were walking along on the sidewalk while debating politics. The argument became so heated that they came to blows. They were rolling around on the snowy sidewalk trying to beat each others brains in when they came to the realization how ridiculous the both of them were acting. They treasured their friendship way more than politics and politicians, so they made a vow to never discuss politics in each others presence ever again in order to preserve their friendship.
Haven’t watched this yet, but it reminded me of seeing Jimmy Stewart (a devout Republican in the 1950’s and 1960’s) come to Scranton, PA, for an event promoting William Scranton for Governor of PA versus some corrupt PA democrat (I think this was 1962). There’s this huge arena with maybe 15,000 in attendance when Jimmy Stewart begins his remarks: “You know, some people around here told me ‘you could take all the Republicans in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and fit them all into a phone booth... [looks around the arena] some phone booth!”
Richardson Dilworth, mayor of Philadelphia.
Some who inhabit FreeRepublic would consider Mr. Stewart weak for putting friendship above politics
True enough...I won’t sacrifice my principles for a friendship...
Then again, it’s possible to disagree without being disagreeable, and keep friends with whom one disagrees about politics by agreeing to disagree and remaining friends...
Some of my oldest and closest friends are Democrats and voted for Hillary...They understand I detest her and her ilk, their politics, and why, so we’ve agreed to refrain from discussing those subjects and remain friendly...They’re never going to change my mind nor I theirs, so why get angry over it?
I think this is likely what Stewart and Fonda chose...
