Gangs of out-of-work fishermen have turned to a life of piracy and have killed dozens who still venture into the sea in Venezuela, as the country's economic crisis worsens.
Once home to the world's fourth-largest tuna fleet, now the fishing trade has collapsed and those who continue to fish are falling prey to the vicious bandits.
Many have been tied up and thrown overboard by pirates, as those with boats opt for illegal ways of making money, such as smuggling and piracy.

Without the rule of law only the lawless prosper. When you have a family to feed you do what ya gotta do.

Why are fisherman out of work?
The fish are still there, and people are hungrier than ever in Venezuela.
This is why I hate the media. Simple digging would reveal - it has nothing to do with fisherman, but rather, collapse of societal order and government control, allowing a small minority of criminals to operate.

Very likely, if they bring the fish to market, their catch will be appropriated by the authorities, and they will get nothing.
If they attempt to sell privately, it is probably illegal.

Why all this malice?
These are the people trying to work, not the people trying to save their own hides while sponging off the system.

Yes, it’s a loss of order situation.
People tend not to want to tolerate that for long, even if the alternative is quite cruel.
Maybe there will be a feud-out between the pirates and eventually one or two main pirate bands which will facilitate safe passage to others, at a price.

I don’t think we have seen a socialist government yet which wasn’t an oxymoron. It isn’t even about the society; it’s about some dictator or dictators playing the society like a cheap fiddle.

As stated, to me, there is a question of who is complicit in their collapse of societal order. Perhaps more information needs to come out before fingers are pointed. Everyone there is hungry.
