Cruz’s economic policy included a ‘VAT’ tax like the Europeans have... I was being ‘utterly’ sarcastic.

Trump is also going to Make Mezico great again.
If Mexicans are buying Fords then by all means build Fords down there. No different than Toyota building here because shipping overseas is cost-prohibitive.

Went to a WalMart in Rosarito, Baja California, south of Tijuana a few months ago. It was by far the most packed WalMart I've ever been in. Huge lines and like 30-40 registers.
This expansion is because WalMart is a well run retail store in a country with too few of them.
This is the kind of expansion we want by U.S. companies -- meeting consumer demand in other countries.

Sounds good to me. If Walmart is profitable all over the world, all power to them.

I don’t think they are because they expanding in Mexico, not shipping jobs there.

A national sales tax or any variation of it like VAT is “the Canadian Way” but more to the point its “the Corporatist Way” taxing the little people so the big multinational corporations don’t have to pay the way.

Yep whatever one may think of Walmart, they have a solid business plan and it stimulates economic growth wherever it goes.

Perhaps not a bad strategy for Walmart.
They are investing in the domestic Mexican market.
If the safety valve of exporting their poverty to the States is sealed, the Mexican government will be forced, kicking and screaming, to do the heavy lifting of fixing problems in their domestic economy.
Let Mexicans earn a decent living in Mexico and
sales could flourish.

I was in a Walmart in Changsha China.
Even those it was in a high rise on multiple floors, I found my way around just fine.

Look at WalMart as an NGO not a business.

So were George Washington and Alex Hamilton a "central planners"?
The goal of every corporation is to eliminate competition and dissolve national borders, cultures and wage differences. They are the ultimate Marxists without knowing it. Or they do know it and don't care.

Somewhere between a job that has a union gravy train compensation plan, and the desire to use slave labor there is a point that need to be found if we are to survive as a nation. Well said.

Trump is not into manufacturing. Why is so hard to understand that manufacturing and importing is not the same as building a hotel in a foreign country. What would be the same is building a hotel in China and putting it on a ship and importing it to the USA. That is ridiculous right? See the difference?

So you can’t see the difference between retail and manufacturing? Are you really that stupid?

Perhaps Wal-Mart is anticipating an influx of shoppers into Mexico.

I used that as an example that Trump would not have issues with Walmart expanding in Mexico
