Donald Trump is tapping Gen. John Kelly to run the Department of Homeland Security, CBS News confirms.

The final request and acceptance, sources told CBS’ Major Garrett, occurred while Kelly was traveling in Europe. His pick for DHS secretary will be announced by the transition staff in the coming days.

Kelly is the third general tapped by the president-elect, joining Gen. James Mattis, Mr. Trump’s pick to become the next secretary of Defense, and Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Mr. Trump’s incoming national security advisor.

Like Mattis, Kelly is a Marine with a reputation for bluntness.

This is terrible. Kobach was the only choice to make. I can only assume McCain, Graham and Flake hinted they would block the nomination

Why have I never heard of Kris Kobach? I try to keep up with this stuff. LOL!

The mass deceptive media never had much positive to say about Kobach... But few have devoted as much time on the illegal invasion as Kobach, in 'legal circles'. Course now I live in MO, and knew that Kobach taught law at UMKC Law School a few years back.. Then he was elected Secretary of State for the State of Kansas... Personally, I wanted Trump to pick him for his VEEP... Few in the 'legal profession' take their oath to defend and protect our Constitution as seriously as does Kobach.

40% of the illegals come here legally and then overstay their visas. 60% of all green cards issued annually come from change of status. The message is that get here and you can stay.

Hunter had no response when I asked him what he would do with the visa overstays. His solution of building the fence only answers part of the problem.

After Tancredo left Congress in 2009, Steve King was the best in the House on immigration issues.

You are wrong. Tancredo sponsored a mere fraction of the legislation dealing with illegals that Hunter did. Hunter was fighting his own party on this before King or Tancredo were in office. There is no person on this earth that knows Hunter’s and King’s and Tancredo’s record on immigration better than I do. Hunter never once differentiated his ‘deport em all’ stance between border jumpers or visa jumpers. He is the author of the True Enforcement Immigration bill which had been introduced multiple times. It deals with ALL illegals.

One section of Hunter’s TRUE Enforcement proposed bill:

Revises visa and alien status provisions, including: (1) visa waiver program suspension; (2) diversity immigrant program elimination; (3) family sponsored immigrant allocations; and (4) visa compliance bonds.

I cannot imagine Trump seriously taking advice from such a disgusting and inept imposter posing as our president for the last 8 years. Is he just playing with us?

Geez...hold your water. Trump doesn't care what Bammy thinks, except maybe in a cautionary way.

Bammy gets his ego fluffed and Trump finds out what the Left might focus on for nominees.

“I’m the one around here who actually doesn’t want Petraeus or Mattis. Both are anti-Israel and both favor the 2 state solution.”

I agree with you about Petraeus - anyone guilty of letting out classified info, especially like that, isn’t fit for another post with access to classified info. He could, presumably, be led into another honey trap without much trouble.

Mattis - I don’t know much about what happened with Chessani & the Haditha Marines...I’ll have to take your word for it.

Regarding Mattis as head of DoD - I think that he is exactly the right guy to deter any potential enemies from messing with us. He will build up our military in a way that leads to LOTS more teeth and not so much tail - and no one is going to want to deal with those teeth, not from a guy who can’t spell “lose.” On the Israel issue - which I care about a LOT - Mattis won’t be making foreign policy. He also has a great deal of respect for the Israeli military, and strikes me as a guy who will listen to someone with whom he disagrees - he is a very studious person, and the very object of studying is to learn what you don’t know.

FYI, there isn’t EVER going to be a 2-state solution. The Pallies can NEVER compromise away their belief that Israel doesn’t even have the right to exist, and without that there is no agreement on anything of substance, let alone enough trust in Israel to allow them to be independent. There are also WAY too many Israelis on the ground in Judea and Samaria for them to be moved - it just isn’t going to happen (thank you, Menachem Begin!).

Besides, just having a guy in charge of DoD who gives strokes to the Left every time he opens his mouth is worth it.

You are wrong.

You are wrong.

There is no person on this earth that knows Hunter’s and King’s and Tancredo’s record on immigration better than I do

Until you met me.

Hunter never once differentiated his ‘deport em all’ stance between border jumpers or visa jumpers. He is the author of the True Enforcement Immigration bill which had been introduced multiple times. It deals with ALL illegals.

The last enforcement only immigration bill was HR 4437 in 2005. It passed the House only to be killed by the Bush administration. Hunter's main hobby horse has been the fence. This is not to belittle his stance on illegal aliens or the need for border security. His big accomplishment was getting the 11 mile fence built between San Diego and Mexico. It had a remarkable salutary effect on crime in San Diego and the border area south of the city.

Tom Tancredo wrote and spoke eloquently and presciently on immigration. His book, In Mortal Danger: The Battle for America's Border and Security provided a compelling case for securing our borders. He wrote numerous articles on immigration and its impact on this country. He called for a reduction (read moratorium) on legal immigration. He founded the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus and headed it for 8 years. Tom was the leader in the House on immigration issues. It was not even close.

Tom graciously wrote a fund raising letter for my immigration group. I spent almost ten years as part of an immigration organization that lobbies on the Hill. I got to know all the players on a personal basis. I have worked with Steve King on immigration issues. He appeared on one of our sponsored panels at CPAC on immigration. Steve has sponsored many bills on immigration issues including birthright citizenship.

Here is an article I wrote for the American Thinker several years ago.

** “The cornerstone of our responsibilities as elected officials is to defend and protect the American people. This was reinforced with the attacks of September 11th, which immediately made border security a national security issue. Protecting our homeland begins at our nation’s borders and it is imperative that our border enforcement agencies be provided with the necessary resources to ensure that we know both who and what are entering the country. I believe in providing Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement corps with sufficient strength to secure our borders and providing for interior enforcement throughout the country because it is imperative in our fight to protect Americans. To not do so can only be characterized as irresponsible.” – Duncan Hunter, 2007 Campaign speech.

If he’s not on Active Duty, he is a civilian.

If he’s retired from Active Duty, he is a civilian.

If he’s not on Active Duty, he’s not a civilian.

He may be Retired Military, Former Military, or ex-Military, he is still a civilian.

Tancredo was the leader in the House on immigration. It is why he founded the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus building if from less than a dozen Congressmen to well over 100.

Most of Hunter's list of bills you provided he co-sponsored. Without researching it, I am sure many of these same bills were co-sponsored by Tancredo as well during his time in the House--1999 to 2009.

You probably know by now, but just in case you didn’t see, it was Flynn’s son who was fired.

Yes, on many he was cosponsor. But he was also the architect who wrote and sponsored the Illegal Immigration Control Act of 1995 and the TRUE Enforcement Act of 2005 (cosponsored by Tom). These are the gold standards of not only border enforcement, but deportations, employment verification, VISA abuse corrections, anchor babies, and many other items to end illegal immigration. Both were killed off by GOP led congresses.

You can compare Hunters 2006 True Enforcement bill which had 47 cosponsors with the only comparable sponsored legislation by Tancredo in 2007 - The Overdue Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (w/ no cosponsors). Then answer who was more serious.

The Illegal Immigration Control Act of 1995 and the True Enforcement Act of 2005 were never passed in the House. How can they be the gold standard?

H R 4437 was passed in the House. it was sponsored by James Sensenbrenner. It was co-sponsored by Pete King. This was the last serious enforcement only bill.

It passed in the house because it was weak tea. Of course, the Senate didn’t even bother. Certainly not the gold standard. Just the opening language about letting Chertoff the stooge decide how to secure the border.

Hunter’s bill is the Gold Standard. Tanc’s gets the silver, the this turd gets a C-. A glorified request for a study handed to an administration that had no desire to stop illegal immigration.
