Ex-Trump campaign manager: unlike Romney, Trump bragged about his wealth — and it worked
VOX News ^ | December 2, 2016 | JOSH EDELSON

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts — One by one, the political operatives sitting around the table at Harvard’s campaign managers conference Wednesday afternoon explained why they thought their candidate could win — even though he or she ended up losing.

And then came Corey Lewandowski.

Lewandowski explained how he joined Donald Trump’s team in January 2015, and helped run “the most unconventional race in the history of the presidency” before his eventual firing 18 months later.

“Embracing Mr. Trump’s wealth and not running from it,” Lewandowski said, “was a strategic decision that we made early on.”

He continued: “The reason we did that is because he looked at the Romney campaign from four years ago and loves to tell the story that Mitt would drive somewhere and get out of the car, get in a Chevy, take a truck and pull up in a Chevy and pretend he wasn’t as rich as he really is.

“And he [Trump] said, no, no. I’m gonna pull up in my 757 and I’m gonna make sure everybody sees the giant Trump plane. If I can’t get that one, I’ll pull up in a private plane somewhere and we’re gonna have the most expensive cars. And I’m gonna do it so everyone understands what this country’s all about.”

Over the two-day session, Lewandowski dropped several tidbits about the Trump campaign’s internal deliberations, and offered some of his own controversial opinions.

Trump was authentic and that is all the difference. He said things one shouldn’t have said if they wanted to get elected. He told the truth.

How stupid is this? Trump wasn’t bragging.

He was trying to get through to the American people that he didn’t needed influence peddlers, lobbyist, or bribes. He’s super rich and explained repeatedly he couldn’t be bought off like the rest of the corrupt.

This is just another BS hit pieces

People don’t like false modesty... they see right through it.

And unless you’re an envious liberal you also like successful people.

The Donald exemplifies the old adage that, “Those who can, do.”

And he’s proved that he can.

It’s an appealing message after eight years of failed and wrong-headed obama Marxism.

Our side has been playing scripted by the cultural Marxists, rigged so that only they can score.

Rich leftists get a pass on being rich (especially when they just inherited it or married it), while our (nominal) side had to pretend to be po' folks and get hammered anyway (e.g., remember the Bush 41 "supermarket scanner" story — oldie but perfect example).

Donald Trump ignored the field markings (drawn by the Left) and ran the ball right through them.

'Bout time somebody did it.

It's not just Romney. It's the entire Republican Party. They've been unfairly tagged as a bunch of billionaires when it's really the billionaires that are backing the Democrats.

Romney's biggest mistake was not selling the message that it's good to be rich and you too, can be rich as well and I'm going to help you do it through policy. Why would anybody want to be poor?

I like Hannity’s remark about never having had a job working for a poor man.

Whhy should anyone be guilty of their success as long as they didn’t kill, maim, or destroy to get it? Trump earned it, he deserved it So the far-left can go pack sand.

Americans may envy the rich but most don't hate the rich. They want a shot at being rich.

That's what this country is all about.

I reminded myself many times during the campaign of the
Commandment “ Thou shalt not Covet” and gave thanks that
Trump was moved to run for our country.

I saw a documentary on his 757, and the show made me very impressed with Trump and the way he runs things. He ensured he hired the right people to maintain and fly the plane, and everything was meticulous and near perfect. Best engines and components he could get, and plane perfectly painted and washed for every flight. And the workers truly respected and liked Trump. Every flight planned perfectly, even at a moment's notice in schedule changes.

Trump is going to make improvements on how government gets things done, or seriously kick butt.

I worked in the construction industry for 45 years as a union Carpenter, and I have been using that line ever since.

Guys would get mad at the Company for some perceived reason and say "we can break this company if we all work together".

My answer was always the same. "Rich men's checks always cash."

Agreed.

The majority of American’s (not the Marxists who make up the media or Dummycrats) still believe in the Free Market model which has brought prosperity and greatness to our nation.

Mr Trump is living proof that if you work hard and use your brain you can success in Business. People admire and respect this

Trump is both the Straight Man & Funny Joker in one creative spirit.

He has a subtle, hidden humor. Trump’s humor makes supporters belly laugh, while opponents cringe. He makes winning fun.

I hope his children are learning well from the master, so the USA can have at least one more President from this clan of winners. :-)

Sort of off track here, but... Wasn't it Bono (of U2 fame) who said, the difference between Ireland and America was, in Ireland people look at a rich man's mansion and say "I want to take that away from him", but in America they say "I want to have that for myself someday."

I always understood this to mean Ireland = Europe = class envy = socialism.
